Is this sexist? (first world problem)

Lighthearted due to the trivial nature of my complaint.

I bought a running watch that comes with a heart rate monitor (chest strap- not built into the watch). The chest strap is too big- the "one size fits all" is infact size "m-xxl". You can, at extra expense, purchase an extra strap in size "xs-s" or "xxxl" if you are very unusually large or small.

Except I'm not that small. I'm 5"8, with broad shoulders (most womens tops don't fit me unless I size up a couple of sizes), big hands and feet (size 8), muscular...in short, I am reasonably large for a woman (but not fat). So clearly their "one size fits all" is "one size fits most MEN".

I wouldn't mind if their was an option to choose chest strap size when you buy the watch, but there isn't. If you are woman of healthy weight (I'm 10 stone, so not a delicate flower), you have to spend extra to get a strap that fits, as if being female is being an outlier. I'm so tired of male being the default human being Angry

Rant over.

To be honest, as a petite woman I am cheesed off with being big being the default - everything is too large for me and the world assumes adults are taller than 5 foot. That is why I love visiting Glasgow - people are wee there, they really are. So your chest strap is sexist and racist - it wouldn't fit small weegie men - and possble light framed Asian men. It is an Anglo-Saxon chest strap.

Absolutely. It's the same with gym equipment - it's designed for the default (male) human being.

KatherinaMinola · 12/12/2016 20:38

Oh yeah, and White British male at that!

Yup pisses me right off.

I've had this with mountain bikes amongst other things. I bought a bike a few years ago The suspension system was set as a default for someone around 10st. If you wanted it set up for a smaller rider it cost £25 for new parts.

I wrote a VERY wtf letter to the manufacturer and received a free set of parts, but no explanation...

So in fairness to the manufacturer, they are going to (so they say) send me out a smaller strap free of charge.

Still doesn't explain why it's not an option to just select size at checkout Hmm
