Interesting that they aren't going to report DV under the same heading because it has it's own procedure. Can't it have it's own procedure and still be recorded as a misogynistic hate crime? Can't it be categorised under both DV and a hate crime? All seems a bit inflexible .

Did you see the video of the reporter being harassed while reporting on harassment? I really wished she had got the camera crew to chase the guy down and asked him to explain himself on camera. Bet he would have shrivelled up like a salted slug.

I wonder why it hasn't been recorded before when "gender identity" is already on the list of characteristics that apply here? Surely "woman" is a valid gender identity, and so being harassed due to being a woman is already a hate crime?

A positive step, but isn't the fact there doesn't seem to be one for misandry, in itself misandry? If a man harasses a woman it's a hate crime, yet woman harasses man it's just harassment, when population wise it's 50:50 and I'm not sure that women suffer harassment more than men, makes the actual harassment worse. It's essentially signalling one is worse than the other because one is a man and one is a woman

Maybe women are just over sensitive to men trying to compliment them? Also odd that I've been harassed on the streets many times in my life, because I'm female, whereas my partner who is male has never been harassed on the streets by women due to his sex.

Misandry doesn't have to be performed by women. If a man is harassed or assaulted by another man, it can still be misandry, just as women can be guilty of misogyny. So I suppose it could be a form of hate crime.

Quite why anyone thinks a feminist discussion group would give a hoot is another question.

It's being recorded differently, not punished differently as far as I can understand from the report.

Do you think that most men would be afraid of a woman who harassed them because of their (male) sex? That the man would be afraid of further verbal or physical violence if they objected to the harassment?

Twitt, I am a bloke, and I do get what you are trying to say. It could be there on the statute book, for purposes of balance. But, to be honest, I don't think most of us would care if there was another way of categorising a crime against us. If you get sworn at, or smacked in the kisser, there are already laws and offences to take care of those instances.

And again, I don't think anyone on here is going to waste their time worrying about it either.

But I think it's important because if this is being implemented it could be just for this one thing, but it could also be implemented in other ways that could be against women. I guess it's the general fear of things creeping, give an inch and they take a mile. Perhaps im naive But I would prefer to live in a world where we are bringing gendered barriers down, not making more.

Yes, bring down gendered barriers, yes please. Not sure why recording how much hate is directed towards women is putting up a barrier though?
