Boys on average get 13% more pocket money than girls.

Lots of theories being bandied about regarding why this might be (boys needing more motivation, boys asking for more, girls asking for clothes rather than money etc).

So it starts that early, and unfortunately it starts with the parents.

It was 2% the year before, so what's caused it to leap such a huge increase?
2% is 'almost' equal, and those theories might not fit 2%.

Children being pushed into gender boxes much earlier, perhaps?

Though that leap is very huge for mere societal development. The UK hasn't had that much immigrants, either, I think. Weird.

My brothers and I would have staged a riot if we thought one of us was getting more than the other one.

The article however isn't very clear about the family set up the groups they surveyed. For instance, I doubt you would see much discrepancy between siblings, however you may find a difference between families. In all, I don't think this article as it reads actually means anything without the full breakdown of qualitive data.

I agree with clarrp hard to say what's going on without reading the article. I also think there's probably not too much difference between siblings.
