...the difference between feminism and radical feminism?

I've been lurking with interest on the feminism boards for a couple of months now (so apologies if this is a done to death subject, I couldn't find a definitive answer with an advanced search).

As far as I can see everyone who identifies as feminist is actually a radical feminist (perhaps I'm wrong though). Is this because the definition has shifted or because it's actually the same thing? Or has feminism become watered down at some point so that everyone now has to call them self a radfem, and 'feminist' has almost become a redundant term. Or is there no real official definition for either, and it's up to each individual to decide what to identify themselves as?

Very confused! Thanks to anyone who can enlighten me Smile

Lass it's from both, some feminist and the old misogynistic media with their ideals on what sells. To me it's become a confused ground when you have some feminist also at the same time campaigning to have the right to dress in that manner.

What the whole society is forgetting is that how people dress is relative. There is no absolute dress code that is normal because it changes all the time. Instead of stoping women from wearing cloths that show a lot of their breast. It might be best to break down the barrier on how we view breast. Not as a sex object but something useful in feeding babies. Normal part of the anatomy.

Dress code seems to matter more in feminism than breaking barriers on why they are viewed in that way. It's those views that need tackling.

Thank you. That's clear.

Seneca I don't remember how I missed that thread last year. I used to not to come on the feminist board that often. (out of interest, is the name connected to Seneca the young or is it just random).

Buffy Yes I have read some of bell hooks work. I remember stumbling upon it when I was about 14-15 in the library while looking for materials to write a poem for poetry slam. My biggest feminist influence is actually a white female teacher whom am still very close to.

quencher It's connected to the Seneca Falls Convention on women's rights, held in 1848 in Seneca Falls, NY. I used to use a different NN (and posted on the thread I linked to above under that name), but decided to change to something that had a feminist connotation. Also I'm American.

Senecafalls great choice and thoughtful. Funny how it didn't cross my mind when I saw it. The falls bit didn't register even though I found it intriguing that's why I asked.
