I've seen this a few times on my Facebook feed. It really winds me up, why couldn't they have written "a parent"? Why does it assume childcare costs are the sole responsibility of a mother?

Looks like I'm on my own with this one!

They don't just come one wage
Plus childcare costs don't last forever and there is an argument about spending in the short term to benefit in the long term

No I agree it's irritating. It also winds up my inner pedant....."where? Knightsbridge? Gateshead? What if she lives within walking distance of work? What about childcare tax credits? Or childcare vouchers - from one or both parents' employers?"

And pension contributions are a profit unless you're planning to die young.

It grated on me too when I read it on Facebook!

I totally agree, the lack of the word 'parent' always bugs me. And plucking random numbers from nowhere and printing it with no evidence of where those figures came from is also ridiculous.
It also annoys me when people state 'women' do this or 'men' do this, I think you'll find that 'people' would be more accurate as it's not always their sex which makes them behave a certain way, people are different!!

I saw this last week shared in a private Facebook group and wrote almost exactly the same as you in response! It particularly winds me up because it's as if the author (who could be male or female) wants to appear "female-friendly"/"feminist" but has completely missed the glaring, sexist background assumption that childcare costs are borne solely by the woman.

Yes ive seen it a couple of times too. On one occasion i posted under it "good thing kids have two parents then" (got no response). Its a bollocks 'fact'. It has no meaning.

I saw that on fb and made a long comment about sexism.

It also implies that travel costs and pension contributions are a result of being a parent rather than a cost of working. They would exist whether the person had kids or not. Like i said, its bollocks.
