A Facebook page and group focussed on women not wanting to share certain spaces with transwomen.

Worth a look and a like

I feel awful for saying this but as the chair of this is a man I feel it will be taken seriously.

Great, thanks posie

The silly thing is, I don't mind sharing spaces with the odd transwoman here and there, but I'm scared to be in a semi-private
space with someone I don't know who is probably much bigger and stronger than me and may have dodgy intentions.

I DON'T mean transwomen! I mean men taking advantage.

I think the FB page and campaign is interesting but they are a bit anti-trans for my tastes. I have no issue with trans people. I have issues due to past sexual assault and I want to feel safe in public spaces. Safe from cis men.

(Sorry, I hope that's not a derail Smile)

I am also scared to 'like' the page in case lazy-thinking friends decide I'm anti-trans. Which would really piss me off because I'm not.

I was alone in a remote public toilet today and I pondered how I would have felt if a particularly large TW was in it when I got out, or if I was a theorem year old school girl, then I thought about how easily a man could stick a dead on and just come in....

That's the thing - and we are conditioned not to want to offend anyone, and to give people the benefit of the doubt. But it can cost you your life!

As I'm fond of saying when people want me to just pop my kids in the car without child seats to go up the road, "the risks are low, but the stakes are high."

Women are being accused of being hysterical by pointing out that risk. But surely it's our risk to choose to take?

Apologies. Thirteen year old school girl

Easily a man could stick a dress on

Oh I knew what you meant Smile

Men can open doors and walk into rooms just as easily as women and they don't need a dress on to do so.

GreenTomatoJam · 26/02/2016 06:53

Bumbledumb - but at present, if there is a man in what is supposed to be a female area, we know that something's up, and know that leaving is a good idea, and whoever is in charge of the area can chuck them out.

If anyone is a woman who says they are, then that is no longer possible.

PosieReturningParker · 26/02/2016 08:03

It has happened already where there are ridiculous gender laws.... I thought toilets were sexed anyway.

Why would anyone think I'm a grown male/woman and I want to use the female toilets and even though my presence and insistence puts women at risk I'm just going to do it because I demand to be seen as a woman?! It's so fucking entitled.

Totally support women's right to privacy but this particular FB campaign has links to some very dodgy, anti-women organisations so I would be wary.
