Curious, do you consider your boobs sexual? (free the nipple [grin])

Maybe this should be in general chat, but I thought I'd try feminist chat first

I genuinely don't consider my breasts at all sexual or embarrassing, however I am a total english prude about "full" nudity. To me a chest is a chest, regardless of whether it has lumps or not, the only thing stopping me walking around shirtless are that I'd be the only one and I'd probably get cold!

Do you consider you breasts a private part of your body, or a "standard" part like a belly or back (ie not usually in view, but not intrinsically private or sexual)?

I feel very exposed bare chested. My boobs are big and cumbersome when not in a bra. I cover my boobs first in the changing room and don't really care who sees my bum or pubic area.
If I had small boobs that didn't flap around I think I'd feel differently.

I've been breastfeeding for the last 12 months. My breasts couldn't be less sexual if they tried. And I think I have spent the last year basically topless while indoors anyway so if it helps I discovered that as long as you keep your arms and tummy warm, your boobs being out don't make much difference to how cold you feel.

Depends, not when actively BFing (which I've done with only short breaks for nearly 8 years!!!) but very much yes when in bed with DH.

But like Museumum I'm large breasted and so am much more comfortable once I have a bra on.

Only in a asexual context. If I'm not doing anything sexual but am lounging about on the beach, or swimming, or accidently show off some boob because I'm bending over to pick up some cheap marmelade then no. Just bits of body.

Not really. I don't walk around topless because I don't want the male reactions, but I am more comfortable with other women seeing my breasts than the genitals.

I used to bathe topless before I entered puberty - which some girls apparently don't. (Which is stupid. Try to go to the loo in a one piece bathing suit ... why should you subject a kid to that?)

My breastfeeding boobs were huge, and constantly had nipple blisters, and a baby attached, I didn't see them as remotely sexual. More like udders on a dairy cow
But other than that, yes. I think my boobs are a sexual thing. The only person who has seen my boobs in any other situation is my husband.

Interesting question. Wasn't worried with friends and passers by getting a flash of boob while breast feeding. I have the general British reticence about nakedness, that situation aside. However... boobs as sexual. Yes insofar as I know that many men find breasts a turn on - to that extent they are part of me as a sexual being (or as a formerly sexual being - I'm now menopausal and no-one gets turned on by my body any more). But as an erogenous zone, no. Frankly, having the nape of my neck kissed always turned me on far more than any amount of breast fondling. It's never done it for me. Which I gather is pretty unusual.

Nudists say that a body is just a body unless we choose to act sexually, and hiding or showing things that we all know we have doesn't make any difference. But I suppose we have a consensus in our society about which body parts are too erotic to be on public view, even if that doesn't match women's perceptions a lot of the time. That recent "PIV sex is rape" thread turned into a discussion about whether heterosexuals' sexual activities are really driven by male desires much more than female ones.

I saw a little piece from someone who had talked to a woman in a distant place, probably Africa, where she explained something about western sexual habits, and the other woman said "You mean white men are obsessed with women's breasts? Then men in your country might as well still be babies!" Followed by gales of laughter. It makes one think.

No I don't find them sexual unless I'm having sexy time. Like lips, bum, thighs etc.
I think free the nipple is great and don't think female toplessness should be taboo and male not. Nipples is nipples. My boobs are annoying as they are huge so I need to wear a bra which is a bit uncomfy but I might not if it weren't for the expectation we wear a bra. I'd feel awkward but more comfortable not wearing one. It's sad that wearing a top if I didn't wear a bra it would be inappropriate as I have large breasts. That angers me!

I know that other people view my breasts as sexual which is why I don't feel comfortable exposing them, I bf my son for 2 years and was very conscious of people starting or trying to get a peak.

I have had big boobs since I was 12 and they solicitated unwanted attention from grown adult men. I think it's disingenuous to say boobs aren't sexual when that's exactly how society positions them.

I have no interest in exposing my breasts to anyone other than in a medical or sexual scenario but I understand the principle behind free the nipple. I do however think that it is part of the 'choice feminism' third wave nonsense that frames sex work as empowering and kind of misses the point about objectification of women's bodies but I don't know how you square that circle since censoring women's bodies comes from a similar place.
