Yes, there are all sorts of reasons not to walk home alone - in York there have been some very sad cases of students who've fallen into the river whilst walking home alone. Numerous examples everywhere of young men who've been subjected to violence. So it makes good sense for everyone to make sure they're with friends late at night. And hence why a gender neutral campaign would be more effective.

Young, working class males from minority groups are far and away the people most likely to be victims of crime.

If they were interested in reducing crime by placing the burden for that reduction on the largest victim pool, they would have depicted young minority group men. They chose to depict women.

Unfortunately, within the adversarial legal system, at least in the instance of rape, the prosecution have to prove both that a crime took place and that the crime was committed by the accused. This is fairly unusual, because in most criminal trials, the fact that a crime has taken place is accepted as a given. Even now, the defence, while not allowed to ask direct questions about the victim's sexual history, they will still ask indirect ones. They will also try and show that the victim somehow 'asked' for it. And by asked for it they will be asked why they were where they were, why they were with who they were with, why they had drunk what they had drunk.

People can sit and say that there is no corollary all they like, but the justice system would disagree with them, as would the general public.
