the relaunch/anniversary special of TGIF is a manfest, though I'm sure they will squeeze a woman in a bikini in at some point:

On the London Marathon 2015 runners medal there are 2 runners depicted - both men. It's like women don't run marathons, raise millions for charity while doing so and who the heck is Paula Radcliffe?:

These examples are just 2 I've come across in normal daily life in the last week.

Grrrrr!

That one stuck with me...

link to show female representation in parliaments around the world

Interesting and comparison is appropriate - women make up around 50% of the population in most countries!

We are at no 58 in the world with 23%. Rwanda and Bolivia are the only 2 countries with more than 50% women. All other countries in the world have less than 50%.

tabulahrasa yes that was rather depressing.

tabulahrasa, Yes, so many people went with the "77 year wait" hype, based on the assumption that "winning Wimbledon" obviously meant winning the men's singles. I suppose it made a good media story.

Andy Murray's win in 2013 was a great sporting achievement for him, but he wasn't even the first person in his own family to win Wimbledon when it's taken as winning a Wimbledon title.

After Fred Perry in 1936, Britain didn't have to wait 77 years for its next Wimbledon champion. Britain had to wait for only one year because Dorothy Round Little won the women's singles in 1937. The other British singles champions were Angela Mortimer (1961), Ann Jones (1969) and then Virginia Wade (1977).

Yeah it was the fact that women's titles were not counted as 'real' ones that bothered me.

I wouldn't recommend googling the percentage of Jewish MPs - there are some rather nasty anti-Semitic websites out there with interesting theories...

But, Jewish people are overrepresented in parliament and in Lords, particularly when talking cultural Jews rather than religious Jews, Muslims are proportionately represented - slightly more so in parliament, slightly less so in Lords.

Women are significantly under-represented in both Parliament and Lords - only 23% MPs compared to 51% of the population.
