Boden have a tshirt with a dinosaur on but the dinosaur is floral on a pink tshirt.

tribpot · 07/02/2015 16:51

Groundhog, you're on the US rather than the UK site, I'm not sure you'd want to ship over to the UK, although I do think I will ask Lands End UK to start stocking more of the same stuff (they do have some, the top I linked to was from the UK site).

Disastronaut - yes, girls' stuff having a picot edge to the neckline I can sort of understand (although this mainly has the effect of limiting who is likely to get it as a hand-me-down) but the cut thing is about making stuff figure hugging. Again, also limiting the hand-me-down potential (in case we didn't already know what the motive for genderising children's clothes and toys was).

FuckOffGroundhog · 07/02/2015 16:53

Yes girls cut is just women's cut shrunk to size. Unfortunately "women's cut" is designed to show figures.

Ah didn't notice that trib however they say they ship to the UK and I think that you don't have to pay import duty on children's clothes. SO it could still be worth it.

tribpot · 07/02/2015 18:50

Shipping rates here - so yes if you did a reasonably large order it might be bearable. They don't look to have loads that doesn't fall into the same cutesy territory (put sea horses on the list of girl animals, and scorpions holding hearts?!) but at least there are some! Dinosaurs as well as rockets.

MrsTawdry · 07/02/2015 18:53

Groundhog those tops are QUITE good but why does it need to say "Girl" genius? Why not just Genius? Also why are the planet t shirts sparkly?

CrispyFern · 07/02/2015 18:57

Because sparkles are fucking ace?

I'm loving the lands end stuff!

What's their boy stuff like? Off to look!

OP posts:
FuckOffGroundhog · 07/02/2015 21:17

Agree that sparkles are ace, and I believe it's "girl genius" because "boy genius" is a pretty common expression. Like boy wonder.

I actually think it's a bit rubbish that boys stuff never has sparkles. Ds loves a bit of bling.

AKnickerfulOfMenace · 07/02/2015 22:12

"Fucking freeze some shit"

I want that T shirt

NorahBone · 13/02/2015 23:10

I'm currently wearing pyjamas with Mini Mouse on, which have the words "flirt", "drama queen" and "lover" written all over them. They were bought for me and of course I'm wearing them ironically... Blush They're just missing "shopaholic"

DaphneMoonCrane · 13/02/2015 23:22

DS1 (4) has a long-sleeved green and white striped tee with an ice lolly on it from Polarn O Pyret. I think it's probably my favourite thing I've ever bought from him. It's perfectly unisex and he looks so cute in it.

He also has a navy tee from Polarn with red edging and red and pink lollipops on it. It's confusing because it's blue and has no frills/flounciness but it has sweeties on and some of them are pink Shock

Oh and he has a breton stripe tee from Vertbaudet with a red face wearing a beret and 'bonjour' on the front.

and about a billion stripy tees from H&M

DH just bought 10mo DS2 a vest from Sainsbury's with a woodland scene on it (little pink Shock deer and toadstools).

I try very hard not to dress my DSes in those sludgy colours and avoid anything with pirates, skulls, tractors/cars/bikes. I do find I have to look very hard, though.

Yes. There is definitely a musical divide which is odd. Boys: Loud, powerful sounding instruments. Girls: Soft, flowing sounding instruments.

tilder · 14/02/2015 10:26

I really struggle with shoes. I wanted to get shoes for dd last autumn and the choice was t bar (some plain blue but mainly in various shades of pink) or boots. I didn't want her in boots too bloody expensive and surely her feet would be wet all the time in t bars. I got her boys shoes.
Had her feet measured recently and apparently those boys shoes had been really popular for girls. But hasn't affected what they offer! Do they not do market research?
Yes yes to the frozen blue. Apparently the sales assistant had been at some sales thing and next season will look less pink, more blue (but only in that girlie blue)

toddlerwrangling · 14/02/2015 11:08

I had some lovely striped babygros in primary colours for DD when she was small. My mum was outraged: "stripes are for boys!" This from a woman who wouldn't allow us to have dolls or play with anything not completely gender-neutral as children. I had apparently not got the memo though about the appropriateness of stripes Hmm

Zara8 · 14/02/2015 11:13

4 month old DD is wearing a stripey vest with spotty tights GrinGrin what does that make her?

Zara8 · 14/02/2015 11:16

Daphne my favourite bit of baby clothing I've had for both DS and DD is a Polarn top with a pattern of coloured pencils all over it.

Bright, fun and gender neutral!

BertieBotts · 14/02/2015 11:20

I remember having patent shoes when I was a child for school and getting told off constantly for not walking properly because I would scuff my shoes. Yet boys' shoes are designed specifically to not scuff during all of the football, running, general activeness of boys Hmm

tilder · 14/02/2015 14:00

But bertiebotts didn't you know girls walk nicely, holding your hand and keeping out of the mud (while boys run around madly, their mud coloured clothes not showing the dirt)?

Things haven't moved on in the shoe front. Still practical (sometimes funky) shoes for boys. Pretty, sparkly, impractical shoes for girls. It isn't the pink and sparkles that offends so much she loves them but the lack of choice and therefore the inevitability about it all.

I have no idea where my mum got my shoes from. Mine were very sensible. Maybe mine were boys shoes?

MsJupiter · 14/02/2015 14:16

This made me so cross in Clarks a while ago. I took the photo and walked out. I always buy (toddler) DS bright shoes as there'll be plenty of time when he's at school to wear brown and black shoes. Its become harder as he has got older though and has needed tougher shoes which only come in sludgy shades.

Why not make tough shoes for girls and boys that come in a variety of colours and sparkles?

I am currently going through ds' baby clothes ahead of dd's arrival in a few weeks. I am determined not to buy her an entire new wardrobe. I have noticed that although I wasn't consciously thinking about it, I tended to buy v neutral stuff. All the very boyish clothes with tractors etc were bought by others.

I have bought ds some new baby grows. Nice wild animals ones but some are in pink. In case of confusion?!

alsmutko · 15/02/2015 13:17

This is hilarious: stripes are for boys????? Who decides this shit? And why? Reduce the amount of hand-me-downs presumably.

Excellent t-shirts on zulily today!

ManAliveThisThingsFantastic · 21/02/2015 13:17

Girls can only enjoy beaches unless there is a surfer present and then it is strictly boys only! Girls should only lie looking pretty on a beach topping up their tan...

Endler32 · 21/02/2015 13:30

Landsend have a great range of kids clothes, I buy dd a few bits from there. Today dd1 (11) is wearing a pair of combats from Boden ( boys section ) and a pokemon t shirt, I find it hard buying clothes for her, she's not girly, doesn't like puppies or flowers, I often buy from the boys section of Boden, Next and H&M. We went to H&M last week and dd was mortified, there was leopard print, pugs, fluffy bunnies and pink bows, we came out with nothing.

MrTumblesBavarianFanbase · 21/02/2015 13:31

DD wears a lot of DS1s clothes, but DS1 wears nothing of hers - or almost nothing (they take each other's black or white long sleeved layering t shirts, and each others socks).

DS1 is wearing a cream and grey striped t shirt and grey cargo type trousers today, dd is wearing a green t shirt with a kangaroo on it (DS owns the same in black) ... But DD's jeans do have tiny heart shapes on them ... hearts are "for girls" Hmm DS2 has a gender stereotyped Thomas the tank engine t shirt, under (inexplicably) an unironed white "dress" shirt I bought him for attending a posh party at DH's work. He tells me he looks very smart :o His socks are purple and white striped and probably used to be DD's.

Heart shapes are "for girls"

Cutesy animals are for girls or boys under 3 ... that's the bit I object to - why the baby/ female overlap? Hmm
