As if having a miscarriage isn't horrible enough this is completely appalling, and to be reported by the medical staff who are supposed to be caring for you....

One of the toughest anti-abortion regimes in the world, this is one of the results of such a stance.

morethanpotatoprints · 16/01/2015 18:00

Some countries are barbaric.
I agree, the poor women.

Gileswithachainsaw · 16/01/2015 18:02

I really don't know what to say.

those poor women. miscarriage is incredibly sad but just one of those things that happen for no reason. There's no blame and there's never anything the mum could have done.

You may as well jail them for making it rain because it's basically punishing them fir natural occurrences.

what kind of stupid person can pass a law with so little knowledge about it.

SconeRhymesWithGone · 16/01/2015 18:11

Shocking.

And this country calls itself "the savior."

alsmutko · 16/01/2015 18:13

There's some US States which sometimes do that too. Was just reading about it today on Everyday Feminism on FB.

wickedlazy · 16/01/2015 18:16

That's appalling Sad

Gileswithachainsaw · 16/01/2015 18:18

What do they go by?
I mean some prescription drugs van be harm full do they blame and jail a woman for a drug side effect and a contraception failure?

what about when the find no traces of drugs or alcohol or any thing?

what of the woman has a medical condition incompatible with pregnancy?

40 years for an evidence less "crime"

unbelievable.

Where's the medical and psychological help for women going through a miscarriage :(

Schoolaroundthecorner · 16/01/2015 19:06

If you found yourself having a miscarriage you just wouldn't go to hospital would you? Leaving open the possibility of all sorts of further complications and possible risk to your life, just horrific.

scallopsrgreat · 16/01/2015 20:25

Control. It's all about controlling women.

Awful. Those poor women Sad

Bue · 17/01/2015 13:04

And Ortega was the darling of the left throughout the 80s. I remember going to several pro- Sandanista benefit shows at the Edinburgh fringe.

I suppose you just have to keep hammering away via organisations like Amnesty.

How are the Nicaraguans you mention relevant to this thread about El Salvador?

PhaedraIsMyName · 19/01/2015 20:35

Oh course but Nicaragua is just as bad. I've read similar reports about Nicaragua.

This is unbelievable.

I don't even know what to say.

PhaedraIsMyName · 21/01/2015 20:32

None of this is new you know. That's why I got confused with Nicaragua where similar jailings have happened

Latin America is home to five of the seven countries in the world in which abortion is banned in all instances, even when the life of the woman is at risk: Chile, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Honduras, and the Dominican Republic, along with the Vatican City and Malta.

PuffinsAreFictitious · 21/01/2015 20:34

And the USA

Koalafications · 21/01/2015 20:45

So mainly catholic countries then?!
