I want Argentinian steakhouse steak. Blue. Cooked on a hot stone and brought to me mit pommes.

But ... have I gone mad or isn't PETA's founder and CEO (or whatever) a woman?! Ingrid Something?

I mean I do realize not all women are feminists but it still seems startling!

KeatsiePie · 06/12/2014 06:09

I realized that I have the ability to google. Was thinking of Ingrid Newkirk. She is the founder and president.

I just don't know what to do with PETA. I think the laws re: the care and protection of animals are really reprehensible pretty much everywhere. I can see how PETA's shock tactics have worked to bring the issues to the forefront. But is that effective, or still effective, now? Don't ordinary people just dismiss it, even if they're not offended by the sexism, just b/c it's so extreme?

I've also read some terrible stuff alleging that PETA was cruel to animals they'd rescued.

TeWiSavesTheDay · 06/12/2014 18:41

I googled and there is a site called petakillsanimals which is pretty comprehensive on their dodgy ethics. Interestingly although it mentions the horrible concentration camp poster (apparently peta claims Jesus was a vegetarian) and advertising targeted at children it didn't have anything to say about the misogynistic tone.
so possibly this falls under 'sexism people don't notice straight away'

PuffinsAreFictitious · 06/12/2014 18:44

Jesus was a vegetarian? One of those vegetarians who eats fish then!

Grin
TeWiSavesTheDay · 06/12/2014 18:48

Grin I bet he was really popular at surprise dinner parties "Oh, it's okay - I know he says he's a vegetarian but I've caught him eating fish loads of times!"

Zazzles007 · 06/12/2014 22:44

Wow, how come I never got that "Jesus was a vegetarian" lesson in the religious school I went to? Right, off to email those in charge at these school(s) about their incorrect religion lessons, and how PETA could help them there. Grin

IIRC Peter was also partial to a bit of meat, and had a vision about being allowed to eat all kinds of meat, even creeping meat, so I'm having a bit of a belief problem when it comes to assertions that Jesus was vegetarian. I think they might need to have a leetle think about it all, no?
