OXO Cubes Advert - Everyday sexism

ImGoingForATwix · 11/11/2014 12:03

There's an OXO advert on at the moment with Jenni Falconer and a mum cooking soup using oxo cubes. The slogan at the end is something along the lines of "mums choose oxo".

What about dads? Or families where woman aren't the household skivvy/cook?

This everyday sexism really gets on my nerves so i've complained to the ASA. (Please feel free to join me in doing the same if it outrages you too - you can complain online). It was on during This Morning on ITV at approx 11.40am.

Here's a link to it

I think some guys aren't aware of the rubbish women have to put up with. A family member was showing me some notes from their law course from 'compliments' on having blow-job lips to touching.

I wonder how many would put up with if they had a male boss who patted their bum, made suggestive comments, wanted to work out with them!

BreakingDad77 · 14/11/2014 09:51

These were of women in the workplace.

carlsonrichards · 14/11/2014 10:09

It's everywhere. Just look at the wheelchairs on buses thread, female posters banging about how 'mums' need buggy spaces.

Nearly every relationship thread features a woman who settled for a sexist twat for a partner or husband, and apologists for sexism, abuse and rape.

'It's completely different to mumsnet. Mumsnet was set up as a parenting forum!'

How is it completely different to mumsnet?

As far as I have seen, all of the current oxo adverts are of women cooking, and nobody has complained about that being an issue.

What the complaint here seems to be is that this particular ad refers to the expertise of a particular group of women - mums. Now it is offensive. Why?

ImGoingForATwix · 16/11/2014 23:03

I don't think you can even compare the two almond. We're comparing a tv advert with a parenting forum. Hardly a fair comparison and ridiculous to get into that.

I find the oxo advert offensive because it's yet another example of everyday sexism. Yes, you can argue it's not offensive because of x, y and z. Yes, I agree with some of the points made. But, my point is that it's just another brand making sure that role of "mum being in charge of the house" , "a woman's place is at home" image sticks around.

Additionally, who's a twat whisk?

Sorry, Twix, it wasn't aimed at you!

It was aimed at the poster who's had two posts deleted - I can't even remember what they said now, some sexist bollocks about women without kids, iirc.

YonicScrewdriver · 17/11/2014 17:35

I do love that, on the mobile site, it looks like you called someone a twatwhisk, Twix!

ImGoingForATwix · 17/11/2014 21:18

I thought that, but couldn't follow as the messages were deleted before I saw them Smile

Haha Yonic, those twatwhisks are the worst of all the whisks Wink

You raise a 2 year old thread from the dead so you can call women feminazis?

You have seriously poor wanker skills, my boy.

You have made my day though, I needed a laugh.

living in a non typical household where I work full time and my partner is a house husband/Sahd these mum based adverts really irritate me. why? because it's alienating to men like my partner who want to take the domestic role, which means less men will be likely to want to do it. and it's presumptive. my hubby made a lovely gravy the other day. I don't think I have ever made gravy.

Xenophile · 03/08/2016 19:49

So glad a troll reincarnated this 2 yr old thread about an advert that is no longer shown.

SpeakNoWords · 03/08/2016 19:51

Not the first time it's been reanimated by a goady fucker either!
