Oh my god I really shouldn't have read the comments section. It makes my head hurt to see so many misconceptions about feminism in one place.

And all because those nasty feminists want videogames that don't represent women solely sex objects. How radical of us!

Just looking at tweets and the acronym SJW is used a lot - what does it mean? Anyone?

Social Justice Warrior. Basically used in a denigrating way for anyone who isn't sexist, racist, homophobic etc and has opinions online.

It's ironic though since being a warrior of justice usually is a good thing in videogames...

I've been scouring the net for people not getting the '#GamerGate' and '#NotYourShield' happenings.

This is 'our' gamergate.me/ resource base for now, there are many, people invovled in this, women, men, young, old, feminists, not, etc from across the world.

I would urge you (any any sane person with the time to spare) not to take the mainstream media seriously on any reportage of internet happenings.

SJWs (are usually, well off, white US kids with little to no understanding of actual politics, who have used many of the tactics like calling calling any feminist who says 'sex has a biological basis' a TERF.

I will declare that I'm not a feminst, for the same reason I wouldn't be a 'manist'.

I regard Identity Politics, Political Correctness etc, as one of the most annoying changes in politics, it is used by all manner of people to stifle debate.

I have been involved quite recently and have received no-nonsense at all from either side, despite not being neutral.

Doxing has happened to people on both sides, both of prominent and non-prominent members.

Anita Sarkeesian is a fraud, and has been basically conning well meaning young feminists out of a lot of money...sad to say.

I am available on twitter under the same name as I post under here, and have no objection to debates.

The 'mis representations of feminism' are mostly being caused by what many prominent radfems have been have been saying and doing.

Oddly enough one of the supporters of GamerGate has been noted feminist Christina Hoff Sommers.

It's a much more complex issue, and seems to be a mixture of gamers (of all stripes) being annoyed at being told they don't exist, co-opted by ideologues, and generally smeared.
Accompanied by people simply wishing to speak freely about issues, online, offline and elsewhere.

Apologies for re-firing an old thread, feel free to explore the issue it is not simply onesided, at all. Also having intereacted with some of the MRA's & feminists involved I cannot see the automatic hate many have for either side.

There is a group within GamerGate, which works across the divide as well to stop doxing and harrasment of both sides, and last I was aware harrassers of Anita were reported to the authorities, but she took no action.

It seems to be standard police advice that you shouldn't make public any legitimate threat you receive online.

It's a script. They all spew the exact same thing, presumably because of the theory that if you along enough mud, stupid people will eat it. Or something.

GamerGate is entirely about misogynists of both sexes getting their jollies by sending death and rape threats to anyone who dares gainsay them.

I thought it was about ethics in games journalism. Apparently even the gamergaters don't think so.

From what I read it all started from an angry man guy slut shaming his GF's alleged gaming success based on sleeping with people and morphed into a whole pitched battle of angry menz vs women on the state of modern gaming.

I think the ethics is just a smoke screen now, poor menz were taking exception to their world of gravity defying boobs, spray on clothing and terrible characterisation to be called out for what it is.

Is feminism hyper-polarised e.g with Christina Hoff in the USA say compared to the UK?

I'm an avid gamer and their is tonnes about the gaming industry that really pisses me off. Unrepresentative E3 Videos, lame pre-ordering fiascos, review embargoes, and... well you know what it doesn't fucking matter.

Gamergate is about reprehensible attitudes towards women, you can try and tack on genuine and authentic beefs with the gaming industry all you like, and those in and of themselves may have merit for discussion, but the moment you put that in a room with women being treated like shit, you've lost me as that is quite simply the far bigger issue.

It's an issue that isn't restricted to gaming, it's in our schools, our streets, our workplaces, and it's past time we consigned it to the mists of history where it belongs with things like the slave trade, and human sacrifice. Yeah maybe if you put the issue in room with the issue "holy shit there is a meteorite the size of Holland and it's heading straight for us!!!" Yeah maybe we can table it for later and deal with that, but as much as I love it, not for gaming.

You can point me at videos of Anita Sarkeesian saying she doesn't like gaming all you like, but you know what? Again one person lying once - not as important an issue. Plus I assume everyone eventually forgave their parents for lying about Father Christmas? And you don't run their every godamn utterance under a freakin microscope if they have been otherwise normal parents?
