Feel like I'm losing the plot

Today is one of those days where I feel like its one step forward, 10 back.

Between a thread in AIBU, answering the door to a delivery man who made a comment about me having 'hubbys' dinner ready for him and a assumption that as I am the only woman in a project team that I will take on all the admin.

I feel like going to bed and pulling the covers over my head.

I have answered back to each of them, posted on the thread, stated to delivery man that actually I was WFH and it was my partners turn to cook, and as the senior member of the team that the (male) admin assistant would be doing the admin, not me, and asked why this member of the team would assume that I would be doing admin rather than running the team. . . .

All minor I agree, but really still. . .

Not minor. I feel like this sometimes. Mostly I just get on with it and manage the every day sexism. But every now and then it feels like it rises up and bites me and a few things in one day can just push you over the edge.

It is massively shit and unfair but good on you for challenging people.

You can for ages without seeing anything that rings alarm bells but then they tend to come at once.

I was reading the Daily Fail this morning (in my defence I have to do this for work!) and there was an article about "Mrs Clegg" who "prefers to be known as Miriam Gonzalez Durantez" Hmm The article was about her saying why on earth shouldn't she have a career and kids like men do. The Mail's tone was almost "ooh, look at the pretty lady talk" and included two huge photos of what she was wearing and pointing out she had nice orange shoes on...

ugh sometimes it gets to you because you shouldn't have to do it

well done for keeping on keeping on

To be fair to the Fail (did I really just say that?) a large proportion of its readership won't really care about MGD, but will cast a nosy eye over her wardrobe.

YonicScrewdriver · 07/10/2014 19:29

Nah, let's not be fair to the Fail.... She doesn't "prefer to be known as" MGD - that's her name!

I prefer to be known as The Dark Goddess Richenda but then, that's not my name. Or is it....?

EBearhug · 07/10/2014 23:43

I prefer to be called by name, too, so I'm with MGD.

PetulaGordino · 08/10/2014 10:50

"prefers to be known as" ffs

mrs clegg is not her name. it's not about preference, it's about not calling her by a name she has never had

"the daily misogyny, which prefer to be known as the daily mail"

Tonight's C4 news made me want to weep with frustration. They spoke to the brother of one of the Rotherham abusers. Apparently it's the fault of girls for wearing short skirts and falsely alleging abuse. Unless the girls are 12, in which case it's the fault of social workers who don't stop false allegations of abuse.

You will note that in neither case is the abuser or rapist at fault.
