I think it's a really bad idea and am struggling to articulate properly WHY.

It doesn't stop the actual rape.

It might be a fairy story anyway.

It won't work unless you walk around with a condom up your innards 24/7.

Victim blaming and smacks of "why did you wear a short skirt" = "why didn't you have a rapex in"

I don't think any of those things can solve rape, it does indeed have to come from the higher powers. But if these things could help a woman feel like she's taking some control back, is that such a bad thing? It's not for everyone of course, but I hate feeling so vulnerable and like there's nothing I can do to protect myself - aside from the big dog of course!

the thing that horrifies me about this device is that, in situations where it is 'deployed', there is the distinct possibility that the assailant will be able to argue that he was assaulted by the woman: 'she led me on, consented to sex and now i've got this horrendous thing stuck in my todge'. Essentially, the victim would have prove rape to avoid an ABH/GBH conviction. Not a good outcome.

Men don't rape by accident. They never accidentally rape. It's a choice. Saying that men might accidentally rape suggests that you believe that men aren't actually in control of their penises, that they in some way have a life of their own. Rapists know when they are raping, they simply couldn't give a shit.

The only way, well, the only way which doesn't end up victim blaming and ensuring that women are responsible for not getting raped, is for men to stop bloody well raping women (NAMALT).
