How do you feel women are portrayed in perfume advertising campaigns and what are your opinions? sexually objectified, equal/dominant/submissive to men? do they set unrealistic expectations, stereotypes?

what are YOUR opinions? discuss

As if I'd let you do my work, Buffy!

Now now laydeez.

You are not discussing.

How terribly poorly socialised you all are!

YonicScrewdriver · 01/10/2014 19:27

Pros of discussing:

Might be a larf

Cons of discussing:
DS has maths to do
I have chocolate to eat

Conclusion: no to discussion.

The dog ate the Internet, Buffy.

mymummademelistentoshitmusic · 02/10/2014 10:17

Can I sit quietly at the back flicking bogies?

Amrapaali · 02/10/2014 10:23

They should show dogs in perfume ads. I would buy one called "Wet Dog" to repel unwelcome advances.

Dogs are lovely when they are not eating the interweb.

IrianofWay · 02/10/2014 10:30

My dog favours earthier scents - eau de badger is his favourite.

mymummademelistentoshitmusic · 02/10/2014 10:38

My old dog lived way de cow pat. Only the body lotion, though. She was such a beautiful, angelic looking collie/shepherd cross. But she had the most disgusting habits. Toilet fishing, etc.

mymummademelistentoshitmusic · 02/10/2014 10:38

Lived way? Loved eau.

PuffinsAreFicticious · 02/10/2014 11:47

Eau de parfum 'Fox Shit' all the way here, although on days when the beagle boys are feeling a bit frisky a dab of Eau de Toilette 'Unidentifiable Dead Seabird' is a complete winner.

These are usually followed by a crowd of shrieking family bearing bottle of tomato sauce.

So, I agree, dogs should feature more in advertising scent very U

TortoiseUpATreeAgain · 02/10/2014 11:56

It's a shame really that you can only get Eau de Startled Skunk on black market import; it's got some unexpected base notes that really make a once-smelled-never-forgotten impression.

PuffinsAreFicticious · 02/10/2014 12:01

A cheeky spritz of Eau Du Durian has a woody fragrance which is never to be forgotten.

ErrolTheDragon · 02/10/2014 12:23

Once on Just a Minute Graham Norton had to talk about his favourite scent and it turned out to be his dog's ears. Some dogs actually usually smell quite pleasant - sort of leathery, with a nice biscuity overtone. DH reckons the smell of dachshunds is addictive (we're on our second, his third). Obviously it's a bit different after a rapturous roll in Something Disgusting.

PuffinsAreFicticious · 02/10/2014 12:31

It turns out that all beagle's feet smell of popcorn. Although one of our one's feet smell of digestive biscuits. We're questioning his parentage. DH is convinced I have committed paternity fraud, god forbid we split, the court case about it would be horrendous.

grimbletart · 02/10/2014 12:54

Eau de dachshund would be the equivalent of Chanel No 5 - pricey, cosy and comforting. I can vouch for my (late) dachshund's exquisite ears…..

mymummademelistentoshitmusic · 02/10/2014 13:15

Eau de something I stole from the bin and hid for a week or so is mighty popular with my kitties.

BriarRainbowshimmer · 02/10/2014 13:30

I enjoy Eau du clean cat myself. Sometimes they just smell naturally good. I wonder why. Perhaps some magic ingredient in their saliva which they use to clean themselves with which is pretty disgusting actuallyHmm

To all those who have expressed anger at my phrasing, I am interested in finding out how women feel about how they are represented in perfume adverts - I am not ordering you to do anything. Does no one have an opinion on how we women are shown, or only simple blind anger at a phrase I have used? Is that all you care about? Do you not think women are sexualised, or are you happy for your little girls to have to live up to these standards, to society? How do you feel about the Dove campaign, who are trying to make a difference for women to feel comfortable in their own skin rather than feel like they need to change and aren't good enough for not living up to like I say, unrealistic expectations. People are developing illnesses from trying to live up to these expectations- anorexia, bulimia, getting cosmetic surgery. Are you not for the equality of rights between men and women, people think it has changed but nothing will change if women are trying to act all high and mighty showing off about a topic which effects people across the globe. If you're not interested in equal rights, as you can see i posted it in the feminist threads. I thought you were all meant to be mums on here, do you not care about how it will effect your children in the future? clearly not, if you're trolling over mumsnet.

Ah, me.

PetulaGordino · 03/10/2014 11:44

goodness i never expected to see you back

are you the one who was posting sexually graphic perfume ads on here the other day and got deleted?

what is YOUR opinion? you have to give a bit here, before you can demand other people to give up their time and energy to answering your questions

FuckOffFerret · 03/10/2014 11:46

Oh Dove sell whitening cream to WOC, excuse me if I don't see them as "caring about women". They're doing their best to make it seem that way to dim women though as they sell them deodorant that moisturize their pits because we should be ashamed of dry armpits!

BriarRainbowshimmer · 03/10/2014 11:47

Grinat OP telling us we're all trolls
Well hello, welcome back. What is your own opinion about perfume ads?
