I read a piece linked to by Feministing, the American blog on why feminism's future cannot be left up to white women.

It got me thinking about race, feminism and what it looks like in different countries.
Being from the UK, and being white - I like to think that I am able to look at the gender equality gap from a global perspective... that equal rights look different if you're a white woman from London as opposed to a first nations woman in Canada or a black woman in South Africa. Just because I have not experienced things doesn't mean I don't have an open mind or the empathy to take on board different experiences and opinions. Am I fooling myself?
In America the race divide is much worse than in the UK - and probably getting worse. Is the article above relevant globally, or is it a really American-centric point of view? Do we really need seperate feminist approaches, or do we just need to educate each other and use empathy as a tool for change?
