Just watched it in film 4 - really good, def one I think I'll let my DD watch. The main character really reminded me of my DD, and it's such a stark reality seeing how limited & restrictive life in Saudi is for girls & women when I think of all the possibility my DD has ahead of her.

Oh good, I've taped it on TiVo - it's going to be repeated over the next couple of weeks I think!

I thought it was absolutely captivating. A triumph in all manner of ways. Watch it if you haven't already!

I go to a winter film club and I always push for female centred films.

Hmmm, I may have to hide this thread now in case of spoilers Grin

I enjoyed it, though dh found it really a bit too slow and quiet. I liked the way it was so cheerful all through really but by the end I felt SO claustrophobic I went and posted a letter in my shorts and bare feet just because I could.

I thought the actor playing the head teacher was utterly brilliant - a really complex portrayal.

Joan, I have to say, it always fucks me off when men say films with women as the central character are slow and/or quiet. It saddens me that they can't see that the struggle for equality when violence abounds against is often slow and quiet. To stay alive, often.

The film did nuance and complexity so very very well.

Yes, wonderful film. Not just from a feminist viewpoint, either.

TBH crotch i've made him sound much more 'typical male film viewer' than he is. He did say that he thought the atmosphere in the film was really well done and it was fascinating to get a look into lives that we as the people we are could never otherwise be part of.

He's the world cinema lover in our household, I'm more likely to watch Mission Impossible on repeat!

I saw it on a plane a little while ago and thought it was excellent, really well acted especially the children, and very poignant.
