She explains she wanted to see how people (including her friends/partner) reacted to her when she dressed to different stereotypes. It's not particularly unexpected, but I thought it was an interesting read.

A male friend of mine did a similar thing on a dating site a few years ago. He didn't change his picture he just changed is occupation. When he said he was a teacher he had 0 replies in 30 days, when he changed it to doctor he had more than 50 in less than I day.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 22/08/2014 14:39

Yes, I bet!

It's really fascinating. But especially how tied this one was to sexual availability, too.

Fascinating! Interesting the assumptions people made about her in her different outfits. Surprised the party girl one didn't get some cock shots...:)

AICM · 22/08/2014 14:53

The availability was a real issue fro me too. The anonymity of the internet does bring out the worst in men. In women too I know, but in men it seems awful and worrying.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 22/08/2014 15:15

Maybe she edited them out, scarlet!

AICM - d'you think it is 'the internet', then? I thought it was interesting she mentioned several of these men did know her. I think you could do similar with walking down the street (though I suppose that's anonymous too, in that you can't exactly race after someone catcalling and demand a name and address!).

No it's not just the internet.

But in relation to the internet one of its least positive features is that people can say what they really think because for the most part it is anonymous. In the case of men and their attitudes towards women it often shows how truly vile some men are.

FreakinScaryCaaw · 22/08/2014 15:34

Very interesting.

She's given me an idea for my cousin's vintage wedding too, am going to copy the look Smile

Vivacia · 22/08/2014 15:52

This is great.

I have often thought about how it would feel to spend a day dressed in traditional Islamic religious dress.

Vivacia · 22/08/2014 15:53

I love the odd sweet comment in amongst the others.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 22/08/2014 16:00

Yes, me too, vivacia! And I did find it interesting that some of the comments were very kindly in a slightly patronizing of 'I assume you want to look x, you actually look y, I can help' way! Grin

I expect those are some more tame comments. Okcupid is quite terrifying. One of their "quiz" questions is about acting out rape fantasies. If I was feeling braver, I would do a blog of all the guys who basically admit to being rapists on a dating site, and include their pics

Scarletohello · 22/08/2014 16:20

Belle... Bloody hell, that's horrifying! I wish you would do that, guys like that need exposing. Understand why you don't feel able to tho.

Scarletohello · 22/08/2014 16:22

You could do a Facebook page, similar to Women eating on the tube...

BelleCurve · 22/08/2014 20:59

thoughtcatalog.com/brian-donovan/2012/09/a-tour-of-the-sex-questions-on-okcupid/

genuine questions, terrifying the number of men who answer yes to the rape one. I'm no longer on there thankfully

FreakinScaryCaaw · 25/08/2014 15:54
Shock
Trills · 25/08/2014 16:02

That makes me want to play dress up, more than anything else :)

Phineyj · 25/08/2014 20:22

That was really interesting!
