Why do ''feminine'' jobs pay a lot less?

First being almost all male, second all female :

Engineer vs teacher - both require degrees
Plumber vs hairdresser - both trades
Construction worker vs cleaner - both manual work

Probably others as well.

Scary stuff. I'll be honest, I'm not sure if it really detracts from my earlier point about 'danger money' as I doubt the pay gap data takes into account either prostitution and the money earned or the dangers of it.

My post wasn't meant to minimise the pay gap or the reasons behind it, simply my wondering aloud whether this skewed the figures somewhat.

Given I'd clearly missed a huge issue shows I need to go do more thinking.

Nursing, teaching (in some areas), care work - all roles where your charges may assault you, sometimes very seriously. You may also be not able to leave your post to reach safety as you have a duty of care to your other charges.

What are the equivalent male roles?

What are the equivalent male roles?

I don't think there are 'male' roles that fall into this as such, however police officers and paramedics face this, there are women but men too. Paramedics can choose not to attend if they believe there is personal risk to themselves (wait for back up etc) and police and fire fighters are also trained to put their own safety first.
