Could there be a feminist party in the UK..?

So France, Sweden and Germany put up feminist parties in the European elections, if they can do it, why can't we? I was feeling pretty optimistic about it reading this article. ( until I read the comments underneath it) :(

I find all the comments on articles like this incredibly depressing.

I was speaking with my friend, who lives in Sweden, and he was telling me about their Feminist Party. It was very interesting. He told me that they (the Feminist Party) handed out a book of facts illustrating the differences between how men and women are treated. He said it was really effective.

I would vote/join a UK feminist party.

Yes i think we should have one - although it would need Caitlin Moran the right person to head it. But then hopefully it would widen debate, debunk some myths, and generally bring it more into the mainstream.

In the article that is linked in this article, what I found encouraging was that having a feminist party highlighted the issues affecting women which meant that the other parties took those issues more seriously.

I agree, I found that encouraging too.

Sweden has one (which consists entirely of female members- no men). Their popularity dropped after the leader said men were animals on live TV.

If elected, they would introduce a "man tax" and a ban on male urinals.

Feminist parties aren't about gender equality. If they had their own way then the pendulum would swing society into a full-blown matriarchy (but isn't that what feminists want).

Feminists want the liberation of women. Only idiots and trolls seriously believe anything else. Oh, and MRAs and punters, but they aren't actually of any importance.

the comments are just SO predictable aren't they. they are pronounced like no one has ever come up with such a cracking rejoinder to these feminist arguments, but honestly, i could read the article and take a pretty good stab at what the comments are going to say

quertber where is the hypocrisy of feminists raising the inequalities that women still face and trying to come to some agreement as how best to tackle them?

We certainly do not want the pendulum to swing the other way so that men then face discrimination ha ha fat chance!

I think that, from the PoV of consciousness raising a Feminist Party would be brilliant. I would happily campaign/vote for them.

Hopefully, like in countries where they already exist, it would put women's rights firmly near the top of the political agenda, in the way that UKIP put racism and immigration there during the EU elections.

If a feminist party contributed to the wider debate about fairness in society and showed clearly the areas where different policies would enhance that, I'd be glad if it existed.

But what I really want to see is mainstream parties, by policy and by example, taking equality issues seriously.

I asked on the webchat with the three female politicians which would be the next party to have a female leader (or shadow) or chancellor (or shadow).

Its a peculiar quirk of recent history that the Conservative Party are the only ones to have achieved this, and that it is the Lib Dem party that has been 'exposed' as having not dealt with sexism and misogyny appropriately.
