Good god, the comments from the judge are truly shocking. Sad

CaptChaos · 06/07/2014 18:35

The other point I was going to make was about the 'classic rapist' comment. He is a classic rapist, he raped someone he knew, in a place she obviously felt safe enough to use as a crash pad when drunk. He raped someone who trusted him. That is what classic rapists do. Or at least the vast majority of rapists.

This judge still seems to believe that 'real' rapists are bad men who jump out at people in dark alleys.

The other thing, I suppose would be that if the rapist had apologised, it would have meant that he knew that he'd raped her, whereas he no doubt maintained his innocence til the end. Despite his lack of emotion when being sentenced.

Sandor, any chance of a link?

Trapper · 06/07/2014 18:56

Wow, disgusting. That poor woman. And insulting to men as the judge believes we are clearly incapable of controlling ourselves in such situations.
I think women who know this judge should take heed and avoid being in his company - just in case he deems them pretty and is unable to control himself.

SandorClegane · 06/07/2014 18:58

Doesn't say much but the comments are encouraging in the main

Thanks Sandor.
Another quote from the judge that's bugging me. "You had sex with her." As opposed to "you committed rape on her" - the "with" implies mutuality.
Oh I dunno. Maybe I'm over thinking. It's just never ending sometimes, isn't it?
The comments are interesting.

ReallyFuckingFedUp · 06/07/2014 19:14

no, that fucked me off too cat and I was ranting at dh about it.

Rape is something you do to someone. And it is a crime.

Sex is something you do with someone and not a crime. Honestly, everything about this case is wrong.

McBear The judge will have practiced law as a solicitor or barrister, though not necessarily criminal law, before becoming a judge. Magistrates are the ones without qualifications.

Awful comments from him Angry

StillFrigginRexManningDay · 06/07/2014 22:57

This Judge has shown a masdive disservice to men and to women. Blatent victim blaming will no doubt put off victims from reporting and implying that rape is an instinct that men have to resist.

McBear · 07/07/2014 05:31

Magistrates!!! That's the one! I googled it after I wrote that and wondered where I'd got the info from. 2/3 of my degree was bloody law modules so I was getting a bit worried Blush
