Hilarious Robin Thicke Twitter disaster

I just had to share this. Basically a Robin Thicke Q&A was set up on Twitter. I don't think it's quite gone to plan....

The questions are bloody hilarious, and apparently it's still going on!

Saw this yest in the metro made me laugh so glad he's getting this response :) hopefully now tv and radio producers will realise how deeply unpopular and irrelevant he is and stop playing that awful bloody song.

BillStickersIsInnocent · 02/07/2014 07:20

Brilliant questions.

Poor Susan Boyle though. I missed that particular twitter storm Grin

Scarletohello · 02/07/2014 07:38

Apparently Robin hadn't actually answered any of the questions. Unsurprisingly...

Why does Robin Thicke always get targeted yet gangsta rap/hip-hop/R&B misogyny which is far worse seems to rarely get criticised?

slug · 02/07/2014 12:39

I wish all the below the line commentators on the Guardian site who come up with the "What's wrong with the Blurred Lines song?" question realise that they are marking themselves out as men to be avoided.

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 02/07/2014 12:46

I saw it yesterday. It was so funny. Some of the questions were brilliant. It almost made me wish I was on Twitter.

Ironic that Snoop Dog, who has written some very misogynistic songs is now being used in some current crap advert ( can't remember what it's for, it's the one with the nerdy guy driving a car that doesn't exist ). Sad how easy it seems to be for misogynists to be rehabilitated by popular culture...

Whilst Robin Thicke deserves all the flack he has received over that cruddy song why did St Pharrell get off scot free? I read part of an interview where he tried to justify the whole women's "boobies" hanging out in music videos thing and he clearly just doesn't get it.

Scarletohello · 02/07/2014 16:41

I don't get it either. Seems like Pharrell is trying to rehabilitate himself with his 'Girls' album. Maybe he was shocked by the backlash of Blurred Lines and saw that he had to redress that or his career would be over. Tbh I have no idea what goes on in the minds of these people ( men), that they think it's ok. Thank God that we (women) have a voice these days, through the internet and can say, actually these things are not ok.

TheSameBoat · 02/07/2014 17:11

Scarletohello, that nerdy car ad drives me mad! Not just bcs of Snoop but the way it uses semi naked black women writhing around said nerdy guy to validate his coolness.

TheSameBoat · 02/07/2014 17:14

How could Pharrell expect to get anything other than a backlash though? He's fully clothed next to naked women and he thinks it all about showing that he "loves women". Hmm

ICanHearYou · 02/07/2014 17:18

'Other than rape, misogyny and oppression of women, what inspires you?

Has to be my favourite

Bluebelljumpsoverthemoon · 03/07/2014 14:11

The hysteria over Blurred Lines is a bit baffling, nearly every female singer sells themselves by singing songs about how desperate they are for sex, writhe around near naked like strippers and often simulate sex with their dancers ( in some of them they're faking gang bangs). There's lots of genuinely misogynistic shit out there by men who promote women as 'bitches and ho's' who need to be put in their place. There's a lot of really offensive, genuinely horrifying images and music out there that shows women in a very degrading manner and encourages young girls to degrade themselves.

Blurred lines is very innocent by comparison. The girls are naked in it but they're not draped around stripper poles, straddling anyone, being pimped out and the men in aren't grabbing at them or being offensive. It's nudity rather than porn and I think people are projecting their own issues onto the song lyrics, it's probably the least 'rapey' song compared to what's popular on in certain genres. It's lighthearted and pokes fun at Thicke more than anything. I don't get the hate and I can't take it seriously. Every so often social media mobs find a bandwagon to jump on and this is one of them.

slug · 03/07/2014 14:29

I'm taking it you haven't actually listened to the lyrics then Bluebell?

Cantremembermyid · 03/07/2014 15:09

totally with bluebell here

Lottapianos · 03/07/2014 15:15

Excellent stuff. Although not quite as funny as a MNer who wrote on a previous Robin Thicke thread that she would love to ask him if he intentionally modelled his whole look on David Brent Grin

Bluebell, come on now. Have you actually heard the song?

A female colleague of mine has it as her ringtone Hmm I honestly couldn't help losing a bit of respect for her when I heard it

chockbic · 03/07/2014 15:17

The song is catchy, which is annoying when you don't like him or his lyrics.

LtEveDallas · 03/07/2014 15:27

Poor old Thicke, didn't quite go the way he'd hoped did it.

But hey, we know he wanted it really, don't we?

The director's thoughts on the video:

I was told about this while it was actually happening, and spent a very amusing half hour watching the pound-shop Justin Timberlake have his PR stunt blow up in his face like a birthday cake packed with TNT. And you know what pleased me the most? All the hundreds and hundreds of people, men and women, who took time out to write Tweets with the same message: singing songs that seek to justify rape is NOT FUCKING ACCEPTABLE.

My fave:

After your flash of 'hug me' genius, I was hoping you could help me out. I'm writing a song about you: what rhymes with 'papist'?
