Clifford has been convicted

I was worried Yewtree was going to be held up as a witchhunt and become an MRA touchstone for "false allegation" bullshit.

The one thing that hits the wrong note I think is a thumbnail on the bbc website that says "Despite claiming he led a "very active" but wholly consensual sex life, publicist-to-the-stars Max Clifford has been found guilty of eight counts of indecent assault," because it implies that an "active" sex life will prevent a predator from attacking, which of course is bullshit as sexual assault has no more link to sex than hitting someone has to stroking them. I mean, would an article say "despite having plenty of pets to stroke, the man has been found guilty of punching someone" - it makes no bloody sense.

Do you think there are more victims of Clifford? I find it hard to believe he suddenly stopped abusing women and became an upstanding charitable figure.

What a dispicable person.

Fcukfifa · 03/05/2014 23:56

Despicable too =)

scottishmummy · 03/05/2014 23:56

I hope people feel empowered to be taken seriously

Fcukfifa · 03/05/2014 23:57

Also edit stop abusing women and children*

Fcukfifa · 03/05/2014 23:58

Fucks sake, can tell I'm a newbie, sorry about the scruffy posts!

CaptChaos · 04/05/2014 00:19

yes, FIFA, I think more women have come forward, and that more will.

The man is a slimy creep

StackALee · 04/05/2014 00:27

'Why did these women wait for decades to accuse him? What's that all about?'

I was seven when someone abused me. I am 44 now. I told my sister for the first time last year, my mother does not know. My abuser was found not guilty (or case not proven or whatever the legal definition is), back in the mid naughtiest, of the sexual assault of more than eight young girls who were the same age as me when they were abused, almost all of whom came forward as adults.

Why doesn't take so long for women to come forward?

Because they're scared they will not be believed.
Because the know some people will assume they are doing it for fame/money.
Because they think it happened years ago and really what can anyone do about it now.
Because the person who abused them is powerful or well known ( as in my case)
Because they feel shame.
Because they know the chances of conviction are slim.
Because there are people like you asking questions like that.

My abuser died in 2013. I still haven't plucked up the courage to call the police.

Stack, I believe you Flowers

Louise has old fashioned views about the place men and women hold in the world, amongst other things. Don't let her worry you.

StackALee · 04/05/2014 00:40

I noticed a couple of other posts from her that are a bit dodgy, I suspect I know who she might have been before her name change.

Sigh.
