Judges comments on sexual assault/rape

A case has been reported in my local paper where a 17 year old boy was convicted of oral rape and sexual assault of a 12 year old. He has been given 100 hours community service and put on the sex offenders register for five years. The judge said "I certainly wouldn't want to do anything which would prejudice his future career". A charge of rape was held on file.

I am so appalled that yet again, the career prospects of the sex offender are given higher priority than his crime and the possible effects on his victim. I seem to remember reading that people can complain to a higher judge (not sure the terms) about a judgement, but am not sure if I have imagined that through wishful thinking?

This is the news report

It can make a difference to how you are perceived.

God, are you serious lemonmuffin?

Of course it matters what he looks like - like NeedAdvice says, if he were a young black man with a promising career, I don't think your average judge would be quite so reluctant to damage it by sending him to prison.

I wonder if the judge gave a nanosecond's thought to the damage the caused to the girl's future by not only being raped but then treated as though that was a minor matter Sad

A 17 year old doesn't know the difference between a 12 year old and a 16 year old? Fuck off. Rapist piece of shit.

12 year olds are generally desperate to go out and get laid aren't they? To the point of getting themselves drunk and lying about their age.I'll be writing in.

Looks like the AG is going to look at this one. Here's an excellent article from New Statesman which makes mention of it.

Good, thanks!

Thanks for the link. Blaming a 12 year old for being raped is about as low as it can possibly get.
