"I'll phone back to speak to your husband - he'll understand"

Just need somewhere to vent where people will understand! I just had a sales call from a woman saying she was from a company called Full Financial Review trying to get me to let them pursue a claim against any mortgage broker I may have used. After I very patiently (because I didn't want to be rude - it must be a horrible job) explained that we didn't use a mortgage broker, just went straight to the building society, she very snappily said "oh never mind, I'll phone back later when your husband's in - he'll understand" Angry. I couldn't quite believe my ears, so asked if that was what she meant and she said yes!

I might be overreacting a little - STBXH left not that long ago and I'm still upset about the whole situation, but I just can't believe a woman would even think, let alone say, such a thing. (For what it's worth I was a conveyancing solicitor at the time we took out the mortgage and STBXH was hardly involved at all, which I explained to her just before she hung up on me!).

What company was she from?

Complain. Companies should not get their staff to phone people up and insult them while they are going about their own business.

CaptChaos · 07/04/2014 18:52

What a complete idiot!

AdoraBell · 07/04/2014 19:00

I agree you should complain.

If it were me I would have played dumb and let them keep phoning 'when your husband is in" given the fact he won't be, until they give up. Yes, it must be a tedious job but there is no reason to insult people.

crocodileshavenoears · 07/04/2014 21:32

She said the company was Full Financial Review. You're right - I will complain.

That's awful! Its bad when men say things like that but having a woman say it is so horrible. And actually very sad.

benid · 08/04/2014 12:36
Shock
Lottapianos · 08/04/2014 12:39

How infuriating. Definitely complain. And save this story for next time someone gives you guff about how 'we're all equal nowadays' and 'its a post feminist world'

ballsballsballs · 08/04/2014 14:49

It sounds like one of those bloody scammers. They're dishonest and sexist.

PenguinsEatSpinach · 08/04/2014 15:29

Well there does seem to be a claims company of that name - www.thefullfinancial.co.uk/financial-services.html.

So either they need to know about their staff member, or they should know someone is pretending to be them. Either way, complain!!

Childrenofthestones · 08/04/2014 22:28

At least it was delivered without threats.
Not long ago I had a call from a woman selling something. As she started her spiel I cut across her and said" no offence mate but I am not interested" and hung up.
She rang straight back and said " Id just like you to know, I know where you live"
It would have been a lot more threatening if it hadn't been delivered with a really thick Brummy accent.

fayrae · 09/04/2014 20:39

I work in telesales, while I would never say such a thing a lot of women I speak to will say the same thing off their own backs. Occasionally a man will say the opposite, that we need to speak to his wife who makes all the financial decisions.

OTheHugeManatee · 09/04/2014 21:02

Scammer. Someone like this called to 'review' my life insurance policy. When I quizzed him he said 'oh...I think te line is bad' an then hung up. Your caller was clearly taught the same strategy but was just more vindictive with it.

Diane31 · 11/04/2014 08:24

Don't believe this is true

PenguinsEatSpinach · 11/04/2014 08:55

Why not Diane? Are you claiming the OP made it up?

charitygirl · 11/04/2014 08:57

Fayrae - they're just trying to get rid of you nicely.

Loopyster · 11/04/2014 08:57

I had this from my head of HR at work. He wanted to discuss my salary and pension contributions with my husband, as he might 'understand better'.

wugiwugi · 11/04/2014 11:03

The truth stings don't it?

slalomsuki · 11/04/2014 11:05

Bet she works for Nev in the Call Centre.

BoulevardOfBrokenSleep · 11/04/2014 11:10

Oh great, is this the next PPI-style thing that we're going to be spammed about to kingdom come...?

AdoraBell · 11/04/2014 13:34

Shock Loopy that is unbelievable, what did you say?

ballsballsballs · 11/04/2014 14:40

The caller is an arsehole. And Loopy WTF?

I've pretended to be thick as mince to get rid of persistent spammers. I quite enjoy playing along with the 'Microsoft' ones and asking them to call back when my husband is in.

bruha · 11/04/2014 20:19

This isn't John lewis you're dealing with, all a compliant will do is give the director of pop-up reclaim company number 473528 a good chuckle. You'll just have to get over it I'm afraid.
