Anybody watching strippers on c4?

I know its C4 but i'm hoping it gives a real insight into the women that do this and why.

I'm turning it off, only flicked on it by mistake and that lovely girl who was an athlete turned stripper was so sad

I hope it puts men off going when they see the programme, though.

Eugh there is this pathetic idiot trying to convonce himself he means something to the 'girls' and that he has a relationship with them because he is there 6 nights a week and brings them maltesers. Pathetic.

Sadly i dont think its doing anything to put men off. The club manager is adamant that its the men being exploited and the girls are all having a whale of a time.

This programme makes me so sad.

I've only been half heartedly watching it, but the woman running it appears to see nothing wrong with young women, one of whom hasn't even told her parents for fear of their reaction, being objectionified (if that's even a word) for money.

What i dont get is- the manager keeps going on about the money the money the money. But out of the women featured tonight- none of them seemed to be making that much. I mean - danielle made £10 for 6 hour shift! How the hell is that sustainable? and as they are free lancers they will be liable for their own tax and NI (obviously not on £10 a shift though)

What made you try it and what did you think of it? Similar to the programme?

I think it was a good programme. They gave the people featured time to talk and express their opinions, and to show them as real people. They couldn't cover all the issues in that one programme, so hopefully they will in the rest of the series. For example, I saw next week's trailer and they interview a neighbour of a club.

I watched it because it featured interviews with the strippers, showing them as real people. The fact that one of them told the camera a man had once asked her if strippers have feelings showed exactly what some men think of them - not even human.

I was also surprised at how little money they made, being as we are often fed the line that women who go into this line of work are rolling in money from gullible punters who are themselves exploited. What bullshit.

One of the women made £100 on Halloween - supposedly the biggest night in the stripping calendar [?!) which seems a tiny amount for waving your tits over a stranger for hours.

And surely they spend most of it on "outfits", hair/nails/fake tan etc. Can't be much money taken home in the end.

I was also surprised at the manager going on about what fun the job was - which meant the "girls" kept going back after leaving the job. But none of them seemed to be having much fun to my eyes.

A tiny amount of women make a lot of money from stripping. In most clubs it is the owners only who are making the money. I know several friends who have stripped. All when they have been in desperate financial need and needed money quickly e.g. for rent to avoid eviction.

I was looking for a thread on this, just started watching it on 4oD. My first question is the financial angle. Would it make sense to insist that the dancers are paid a salary, their hours include time to exercise, get made up, shower etc and no fees or fines and allowances for costumes. This would seem more in line with jobs such as firefighting or acting.

Also I've noticed that Shelly is called the "house mother" or something like. I again think this should be professionalised. Why isn't she the "dance manager", so that the dancers are viewed in the role of professional dancers, strippers whatever rather than "girls"?

When i heard the house mother phrase it reminded me of the brothels you read about in novels. Its not professional at all. Also agree about the salary thing.

This programme was about the music business? I'm not sure that attitudes to sexualised dancing have changed. I think that attitudes to sexualised dancing by women has changed.

I am thinking that dancers who are doing well with their earnings are not going to say too much in case the inland revenue were watching. I was told there was a spate a text messages doing the dancer circuit about the money. My neighbour says it is either that or there is a big difference between Scotland and England. Leeds Uni research in 2009 showed the average shift in England was then £240 after house fees and over deductions and that included bad nights where practically nothing was earned as it is swings and roundabouts.
