I dint like the term girl's night out...

Not keen on lad's nights either. I'm in my forties and haven't been a girl for sometime.

Haven't posted in this topic before. What would forward thinking people call this?

Well, it's better than ladies on tour or some such bullshit Grin I don't get worked up about it, if I'm going out with my girlfriends, it's a girls night out, isn't it?

One could say just night out I suppose, but again, I'm not fussy.

I don't like girls nights outs generally and what I imagine them to be (even though I know they can take many forms) but I don't object to the phrase.

If I'm away/out with my adult friends, I'm not with girls. Tis strange to infantilise a gender name. I just go on night out it for weekends away.

Not the worst thing in the world, it sounds silly to me for adults to describe themselves this way. Have at it if it's your thing.

If women had girls nights out and men had men's nights out then I'd might be bothered but they have boys nights out.

I find it odd the lads night out / girls night out thing.

What is the implication? I have always socialised with just whoever I socialised with, and paid no heed to their sex. Mind you I find it odd at some BBQs and stuff when men and women seem to be expected to segregate according to sex. And eat and drink according to sex too. Odd. I tend to drink lager and eat large burgers and more or less eschew the salad and talk to who I feel like irrespective of their genitalia Grin

I dislike the use of "girls" for adult women deeply unpleasant.

But I can take "girls' night out" as an idiom (unlike, say 'holiday with the girls' which I would take as a trip with DDs, or 'my DH is texting a girl" which I would see as potentially grooming a femal child).

Unlike others on this thread, I do care about what sex my friends are. Almost all of my friends are women. I do think it completely changes social interaction if a lot of a group are men.

I wouldn't refer to adult women as girls, but I don't have an issue if other women refer to themselves that way.

Don't see the issue here.

Men say 'going out with the boys' too.

I understand if you don't want to be called a girl when you are a woman, but men get boy too.
