... I recently came across this video on YouTube and it has really got me thinking. Especially since I am on my usual pre-Christmas diet.

Just wondered if anyone else had seen it, I'd love to hear some more thoughts.

Apologies if it's been done before, I don't often wander into FWR and haven't posted here before, did a quick search and couldn't find it elsewhere.

I think this is a powerful poem. There is a lot here about how women are taught self denial, to not take up too much space, to not put themselves first. And they often unconsciously pass these messages onto their daughters.

Whereas men are taught to indulge themselves, to take up space, to put themselves first. And fathers often unconsciously pass these messages onto their sons.

I don't really identify with the eating and physical shrinking/growing metaphor that she uses, it doesn't describe my family at all. I think I have a healthy attitude to food.

But I do like the 'inheritance is accidental' line at the end. I have a toddler and I notice that even aged 2 she mirrors me strongly. I've started to really pay attention to what sort of attitudes I want to pass on.

Yes I like that line too. I think many people underestimate the amount very young children learn from what their parents do and say everyday. And they pay attention to what they see happening, not to what you tell them should be the case e.g. if you tell them mummies and dads both do housework, but that is not the case in your house, then they notice what they see, not what you say.

I'm the only female in our household and it has really made me think about our different behaviours. I have suddenly noticed how often I say sorry - before and after a question!
