Given that this is high profile following on from the horrible Roast Busters stuff going on in New Zealand, I was curious to see if this campaign really generates any attention in the UK.

I do not disagree that there are excellent reasons for take back the night to be female only.

"Men should be feminists because of the justice of the cause"

Some feminists would rather not have men in the cause at all.

Alternatively you give to Macmillan.

I'm originally American, so speaking from a slightly different context...

But let's say it came out that Macmillan was devoting much more money to prostate cancer than breast cancer. Would you not want some campaigning to address that? And if that campaigning was successful, would you not want to keep up the pressure? Because that's basically what happened in the US with the awareness campaign, which has now spread far afield.

Obviously you can give to Macmillan but if you are particularly concerned with making sure women's health issues get equal attention, that's completely valid.

I'm sure everyone who's against male violence against women is also against male violence against men. But it's okay to have more specific targets.

I point out though that you definitely don't have to 'be a feminist' to support the cause, and you certainly are not as bad as the MRAs/rapists/harassers automatically because you don't actively support it. That sort of labeling and accusation is counter-productive.
Yes there is a large part of the male population in the UK who just don't see it as their problem (as they have allowed themselves to be tuned out of it) due to the plain issue of privilege, but hearts and minds have never been changed in this way.

Ignoring the issue, despite being v convincingly encouraged to consider it, is an indictment but we start with what we have, imo.

I wish that this had been said upthread.
