The traficking/VAW worksop I went to in the afternoon was not great.

Next time we need to have a meet up. I was all alone, though I did accidentally meet up with one of the Older Feminist Alliance women at the tube station who was lost and couldn't read maps so I escorted her to the venu.

FWIW, on trafficking, I have heard Rachel Moran speak - she's not a trafficked woman, but she is incredibly knowlegeable and very eloquent, so would be a good speaker. She touched on the issue when I heard her speak, and it was clear she knew a great deal.

Rachel Moran is brilliant. She is an exited woman so does have lots of personal experience as well as theoretical experience. Julia Long is good as well.

Oh really Yoni, what was wrong with it? I went to feminism and the media, which was mostly good though I'm slightly freaked out by Yasmin Alibhai-Brown's admission that she enjoys watching feminist porn.

Yes we should definitely plan an MN meet-up next time. The atmosphere at feminist conferences is always lovely, I was mostly on my own but met quite a few nice people.

I was at RadFem 2013. A lot of women were there mind you. I really enjoyed it.

I was at RadFem 2012 (where I saw Gail Dines), but not this year. We should try to get a proper MN gathering together at a conference next year. I met a few MNers at RadFem last year but what with all the namechanging post MRA invasion I'm a bit baffled about who is who these days.

Oh, that's a nice thought, though, we heard the same speakers. The women who spoke about Canadian First Nations women was amazing, wasn't she?!

moon - oh, please let's. I think it is much easier to swap names in reality.

Yes she was great. I have read a fair bit about that issue, but never heard a speaker talk about the issues before. I really enjoyed some of the workshops too.

I hadn't read about it, so I found it very powerful.

I enjoyed the workshops, except I ended up in one about feminist mothering, and I found it odd. I had hoped to sit and listen and soak it up, and it was scary, because it basically seemed to be 'well, mothering isn't very feminist, so what can we do?'.

It was an odd perspective to me, being a non-mother most of whose feministy friends are from MN!

I didn't go to the feminist mothering workshop, but I heard it was strange. Can't remember who ran it now.

Yes, it was strange. I suspect it was simply that the demographic wasn't ideally suited to it.

But it was also odd, I felt, that a woman-only conference had that as an optional session not a core one. And I understand why, as few of the key players have children, but I always get the sense from here that it is such an important issue even for childless women.

Yes it is a key issue. I can't think of any radical feminist who focusses on mothering though?

Well, yes, grennie, that's the point I was making.

Though I can think of several who discuss it plenty - glosswatch does; so does SGM in My Elegant Gathering. How much it's researched at an academic level or written up as hard theory, I don't know.

I didn't. With hindsight I would have booked different sessions. I will choose better next time.

My DH has gone off with the children to Scotland now, and I really should be clearing the garden of stuff that will be blown around, so I will come back later with my report on the sessions that I did attend :)
