For those who think that young people don't care about feminism and are beholden to celeb culture, I have a bit of good news : Derby university student's
Union banned the song Blurred lines from all SU venues , my DD's friend is President of said SU and was interviewed by CNN on the subject Smile. She has been quoted on their website!

SO had Edinburgh University and personally I think that it is a total overreaction. It is one of thousands of similar songs. Perhaps events such as "Shagtag" and "Pimps and Hoes" are bigger issues no?

I expect the students are capable of giving their attention to more than one thing!

Well thankfully she has had enormous support and a very positive response to the ban and other Universities are coming on board.

Also the Teachers' unions are backing the campaign to remove "lad's mags" from view on shelves and are also backing the "no more page 3 campaign".

I truly believe all these things are a step in the right direction, it's a sign of the times that my DD will be having to discuss online pornography with her year seven form in their PHSE lessons Sad .

It may well be a sign of the times but internet pornography is a fact of life and I woul'd be glad that my DD gets to talk about it. SO many people simply choose to pretend it isn't an issue.
