"easy for mums to wash and dry"...

No real reason for this post except I want somewhere to record my outrage and my dogs don't seem to care, they're just staring at me confused!

looking at these waterproofs

www.puddlejumpers.co.uk/zc/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=22_29

fully waterproof with taped seams, windproof and breathable, an end to that wet soggy feeling inside. Easy care for mum too. They can be washed and tumble dried.

why do people think it's OK to say these things?

"That's why mums go to Iceland."

And that's why I don't go to Iceland.

The store, that is. I'd quite like to go to the country. Can other people go there, or only mums?

SPBisResisting · 07/09/2013 06:43

What abiut the vanish ads? Loads of MUMS sharing their tips on how to get whites white.

sashh · 07/09/2013 08:18

I run a small after school club so I thought the waterproofs would be an investment. But I note the care instructions are only for mums.

I'm not a mum so what would I do? Are there special laundries run by busy mums that I could take them to? Or do I pick one of the mum's who use the club? What about the families with a nanny, can a nanny work as a substitute mun to wash these or is it something to do with the way the vagina reacts to birth? If it is the latter then can adoptive mums and those who have C sections wash them?

So many questions.

Perhaps I will buy from a non sexist supplier instead.

LurcioLovesFrankie · 07/09/2013 08:23

Do they sell these on Amazon? If so, we could all write reviews there. Along minutes of the bic pen reviews and those trainers that Wendy Davis wore during the filibuster.

Love the c-section idea, sashh. That's me not able to buy them, then.

SPBisResisting · 07/09/2013 08:49

sassh there is a point during all births where any previous important information is removed from the brain and replaced with all four verses of "twinkle twinkle" plus information such as how to remove vomit from sofa cushion covers. A similar hormonal change takes place approximately three days into an adoption.
So you have no need to worry - it's an all inclusive dumbing down :)

SPBisResisting

What about nannies?

Bambamb · 08/09/2013 07:30

Haha this thread has made me laugh. Especially Heidi, hilarious.

EmmelineGoulden · 08/09/2013 08:43

They have updated the descriptions.

itried · 08/09/2013 08:51

The website now says '(and Dads too)' .

How do you feel about being the after-thought guys?

Yes what on earth is wrong with the word "parents" for marketers?

Vatta · 08/09/2013 09:38

Power of mumsnet in action, love it!

No response here - I suspect they'd have replied if I had sent them a complimentary email.

Why didn't they just change it to parents? Why mums (or dads)? Definitely puts dads in their place, doesn't it?

heidihole · 08/09/2013 10:10

But why even narrow your audience so much? What about grandparents or nannys or foster carers or when stay

OP posts:
heidihole · 08/09/2013 10:11

Oops. When staying with uncle mick for the weekend? Why not just "easy to wash and dry"!

OP posts:
SirChenjin · 08/09/2013 10:11

That's true Heidi. 'Easy to launder' - simple.

NickyNackyNooNoo · 08/09/2013 11:13

Just looked at the first link and the wording has been changed to 'Mum (or Dad)'

The power of MN Grin

ChunkyPickle · 08/09/2013 11:21

Wait. There are 4 verses to Twinkle Twinkle? Is that what they teach at those ante-natal/parentcraft classes then?

I suspect there was a fair amount of eye-rolling - but at least they have changed it - replies would have been polite though - perhaps Monday when office staff are in rather than some poor website bod combing the site for the mention of the word 'Mum' and fixing it.

Yama · 08/09/2013 11:27

We have been muting tv adverts since dc1 was very young. They are so pervasive, I won't let them infect my children.

queenofdrama · 08/09/2013 11:34

Just as patronising & sexist as formula milk adverts IMO!
