... while doing this sort of advertising.

Are you still in the 1950's Samsung?

pinkyredrose · 23/08/2013 19:31

Blimey. I thought it was a pisstake, is it meant to be serious?

MrsMongoose · 23/08/2013 19:34

Sad part is that the advertising industry is quite mixed. I'm sure women will have worked on that ad.

Treen44444 · 23/08/2013 19:37

Painful viewing. Is that advert aimed at uk market?

chibi · 23/08/2013 19:38

i was waiting for them to close with 'so simple even a woman can do it'

samsung suck arse.

Beamur · 23/08/2013 19:39

That ad alone would be enough for me not to buy it! How deeply patronising to women.

JoJoH1 · 23/08/2013 19:50

good god

CajaDeLaMemoria · 23/08/2013 19:52

God that was offensive. It's got me really annoyed.

I feel like complaining, but I'm not sure Samsung deserve the time.

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 23/08/2013 19:57

Oooh - so easy that even the dimwit woman can use it Hmm

Samsung are arses.

NiceTabard · 23/08/2013 20:05

That is a really bad advert. Wooden acting, terrible pacing, really boring. What is the context of it?

Oh yes and obviously the sexism is appalling.

TheDoctrineOfPositivityYes · 23/08/2013 20:07

Surely the whole thing was a parody? The worker guy, with his eyebrows? Must be a joke, yes?

ubik · 23/08/2013 20:08

I just showed this to DP (who is on IT) outraged at how patronising it is.
Then I said: "and it's just a thingy that makes your computer go faster.."
At which point he started sniggering and said:"yes that ad is aimed at people like you..."

Blush
NoComet · 23/08/2013 20:08

Shit, that is unbelievably bad.
Even though it would be the perfect tool for storing and moving pictures from one machine to another, I couldn't possibly buy one after seeing that ad.

ImpulsePineapple · 23/08/2013 20:18

Do you really think it's a joke? Like post-something irony?

I suppose it is getting the 'thingy that makes the laptop go faster' get talked about (ubik!!)... Hmm.

OP posts:
grimbletart · 23/08/2013 20:57

And MRAs complain that ads make men look helpless.....

NicholasTeakozy · 23/08/2013 21:54

Won't be buying one. Bunch of sexist arse.

comingalongnicely · 23/08/2013 22:00

That's absolutely patronising, they couldn't have got more cliches in if they tried. Maybe if they'd shown 2 "clued up" and 2 "clueless", 1 of each sex & without the nasty references to "chores" & general "dizzy woman" fuckwittery they could have gotten away with it. Hard to believe that was made seriously....

NiceTabard · 23/08/2013 22:22

Thing is, time and time again it shows that in families women make final decision / are super-involved in decision on big purchases.

It is also well known that at pre-family age, females are as interested and tech savvy as males.

Car manufacturers are slowly trying to catch on to this (but still failing most of the time).

They are shooting themselves in the foot on purpose because they enjoy immersing themselves in stereotypes even though as a business it will not be the most profitable advertising? I mean what on earth is that all about. Why?

Boosterseat · 23/08/2013 22:47

They were all shite actors and the whole thing was cringeworthy.

The dialogue seemed bizzare, I wonder the same as Tren wether it was aimed at a uk market.

Total bollocks.

Suelford · 23/08/2013 23:24

This is an advert made by Koreans for the Korean market, they are intentionally talking slowly because their audience does not necessarily speak fluent English.

NiceTabard · 23/08/2013 23:37

If it's an advert made by Koreans for the Korean market, then why aren't the actors speaking Korean?

What am I missing?

I even looked on wiki as this sort of thing isn't my strong point but it isn't like there are multiple languages in use like switzerland or singapore or somewhere.

Suelford · 24/08/2013 09:15

It will be dubbed in Korean, but also this is a promotional video for trade shows/expos/etc, not a TV advert, so having an English version available is useful as English is a commonly spoken language.

RegainingUnconsciousness · 24/08/2013 09:23

They must know what they've done. It must be a gimmick.

Now I want one.

Bum, it works!

EBearhug · 24/08/2013 14:04

Samsung aren't the only people who make SSDs, so you can still have one.

And the cynic in me says - they're probably getting the ad to a far wider audience for no cost than actually paying for advertising slots would.

I work in IT, and part of my role is round storage, so I know just what a solid state drive is. But last time I went on a techy course with a vendor, the (female) administrator cheered when I walked in, because they so rarely see women. [sigh] You either have to develop a thick skin, or you leave for a different career where people don't stare at you just because you're a woman. I do actively try to encourage people to take it up as a career - I don't mention these tales when I do so, but I have met others who refuse to promote STEM careers to girls, because they know what hassle they'll have to deal with.

NoComet · 24/08/2013 14:11

According to DD1, the hasstle begins at school.

She says the boys are forever asking her to explain very simple bits of scratch to them and then don't listen and ask the same basic question again next lesson. She is not impressed!

MrsTerryPratchett · 25/08/2013 02:58

It's racist AND sexist. GO TEAM.

My DH works in IT and he has a few female colleagues. My DFIL said about his boss, "is she in her job because they had to have a woman?" Interesting, because he worked for male incompetents for years and there was no suggestion they got their job through the old boys network.
