An acquaintance of mine has just posted this on FB with a plea for votes for his 14yo DD.

missteenqueenuk.com/main/

I can't reply in the manner I would like as he is DH's friend not mine and it woudl cause trouble.

So I'm posting it here so I can say wtf and vom and ew and generally just scrub myself until I feel cleansed. And so you lot can be all ragey about it with me.

My SIL puts my 3yo niece into pageants that include a swimwear section Hmm

I loathe it. Makes me so full of rage.

There is a Miss Fake Bake Bikini prize available.... and that is appropriate how??

Swimwear sections for three year olds bigkids???

I know. SHe just doesn't seem to think: swimwear si to show off a body therefore not appropriate for children. It's all fun and to look pretty and people are just moaning :(

Because all girls should aim to be appraised for their looks and their body shape, then compared against their peers Hmm

So sad that this is what our kids are aspiring to, my 6 y/o DD struts around with her hand on her hip and ties her t-shirt in a knot to show off her midriff - I do nothing to encourage this sort of attitude, but she is surrounded by it from music/TV/friends and I feel like I'm fighting a losing battle trying to convince her that aspiring to be a vet or a teacher is a more worthwhile ambition than wanting to be a model or a rock star.

I think it is often down to personality as well.
My twelve year old daughter goes on Xbox live playing call of duty and kicks the ass of nearly every boy in her group of friends. None of her girl friends are interested in playing.
My ten year old on the other hand isn't interested in gaming and loves her dolls and doing their hair.
They were both brought up exactly the same.
What do they say...nature not nurture?
