Being a SAHM is not being financially dependant on your husband, it just means that one of you is doing the childcare (which you would otherwise pay £££ for).

The point is that we now have a choice.

Choosing to be a sahm or person at home is absolutely fine and a valid choice (and one that I myself have made over a highly paid career).

But the point is it is a choice. Not one that is forced upon anyone anymore either by men or social expectations.

I doubt very much that it will be a properly conducted piece of market research, and I'm certainly not going to go through to the Daily Mail to check.

If you'd like us to debate the issues properly, and as you've already read the article, perhaps you could let us know:

• who conducted the survey? (i.e. was it a market research agency or just a survey monkey piece done by the fashion website)
• how many respondents took part?
• how was the sample constructed - was it a nationally representative sample?

Then we can talk.

Not clicked the link, but if its the survey I'm thinking of the gist was would you rather be a Sahm than work. Which IMO is a different kettle of fish entirely .

If it is the one it annoyed me as the SAHP aspect was gender bias to mothers and the wording inferred if you had the funds would you stay at home.

I personally would volunteer to walk round with cock womble written in my forehead if it meant I was magically set financially so I could bunk off work for the foreseeable future.

Nobody's asking you to do research!? I've done plenty of research into feminism and social attitudes as I'm sure have others on the thread. We were just asking you to extract a couple of 'facts' from your dubious article, a survey done by a fashion company and reported in the DM doesn't count as 'research' and that's why we won't give it oxygen by reading it.

We're quite happy to talk and debate with you, but you don't seem to want that?

debssm - as you're new to Mumsnet, you might like to know that many of us prefer not to read the Daily Mail, and as clicking through to their website means more money in their coffers, that is something that we don't want to do either.

However we are always up for a good debate (understatement ) and your OP sounds worthy of discussion.
