Has anyone noticed? All the women, whether on BBC Breakfast, local weather reports or Newsnight, they always wear a skirt. Ridiculous.

I don't think there is a guideline, tbh. And lots of examples exist to confound that analysis. The BBC's financial woman (forget her name, with a North-East accent?) seems to just wear what she likes. Dresses sometimes, sometimes trousers.

I'm more concerned about their lack of ability to accessories. Entirely inappropriate use of earrings/pendants with tops worn. That above all distracts from the vital messages they are providing.

Oh yes

Now you mention it, it's true.

Is it to do with "traditional business attire" - men in trouser suit women in skirt suit..?

Or maybe they just prefer wearing skirts and dresses! I know I do for work as I find them more slimming. And also, a two piece trouser suit is quite dated now unless in a very corporate office. I work in a job that means I am in and out of a wide variety of businesses and rarely see women in trousers suits.

my comment above re accessorising was v tongue-in-cheek. What they say is acknowleged.
I have little doubt those female presenters know their worth and are able to judge when and how to dress. To imply/say they are sexual fops, due to their dress choice would be an offence to them.

Or maybe they find a skirt suit slimming, as per scarlettsmummy.

Every time something about the media comes up, I am gobsmacked by the ignorance of people who don't get that it's all a show.

The women may not have written down guidelines, but if their attire doesn't fit the corporate image someone will mention to them that they should wear something else, or they will get sacked. (Same for men)

The corporate identity will expect certain stereotypical looks. Men won't be wearing that hand knitted jumper from great aunt Cecily and women will wear skirts if they are expected to. Of course, they shouldn't need to worry about looking fat, they are there to represent a serious issue, not show off their figure, but how many fat people are news anchors?

But in case any of you think that they have free choice, let me put it plainly: it is a show with actors and costumes. The producers decide on the dress code, not the news readers. So no, it isn't because they want to look modern and slim, but because they are told what to wear.

I'd get those neck muscles checked out kickass - you should have been able to self-support your head after 4-5 months at least. I'm worried about you.Grin
