For those who know what I'm on about no explanation required, for those who have no idea a brief précis.

FNL is a tv programme about small town American high school football, set in a fictional Texas town. My American friends assure me that it's as true as it gets.

What I want to know from our American friends in here is if the portrayal of Rally (cheer leaders) girls is correct.

Basically a girl is assigned to each player and she bakes/does laundry/homework, etc for him. Is his really what happens?

I'm horrified to think this is acceptable, but not naive enough to think it doesn't.

I don't have a tv so have no idea what this programme is about. I grew up in a small town in the midwest of America. All my family still live there.

I've never heard of anything like this. When I was in school, there were cheerleaders (who did their cheers and tumbling routines at football and basketball games,) and there were boys and girls who were involved in sports. Apart from some dating each other, there were no arrangements for cheerleaders to provide domestic services for boys on the sports team. I've never heard of anything like that, seriously.

Surely this is just something cooked up (pardon the pun) for the tv.

I hope so but all of my American friend swear its truthful! As it is it's a very good programme on the whole.

I finished this program recently, and also looked up rally girls/pep squads/etc. There are occasional forum posts from people saying that they had these in their schools, but not very common apparently.
