Anyone? It's my first foray into Feminist Chat and I could do with some help.

Sorry, I can't see the full subject on my phone. '...as a chat up line?'

InSPsFanjoNoOneHearsYouScream · 27/10/2012 00:05

That's what every rapist would say

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 27/10/2012 00:05

Well, obviously "I'm not going to rape you" is a pretty shit chat-up line.

Who said it, and in what circumstances?

NewNames · 27/10/2012 00:05

Ok, it was.

Agreed. Shite chat up line.

BeingBooyhoo · 27/10/2012 00:05

i've never had anyone say this to me as a chat up line. is it a common one?

Wahtawah · 27/10/2012 00:06

Yes NewNames, it was said as a chat up line

OP posts:
NewNames · 27/10/2012 00:07

Well it's crap.

I don't think I'd be going for a date with them.

BeingBooyhoo · 27/10/2012 00:11

im wondering what the chatter up expects as a response to this line. do they expect you to heave a sigh of relief and say "oh great, i dont want to be raped, this must mean we're meant for each other." or would a brush off be "oh that's disappointing, i wanted to be raped tonight". Hmm

i cant imagine that line ever working.

Wahtawah · 27/10/2012 00:24

This was my 25 year old son on FB. I am so disappointed/angry !!!! I need to respond to him somehow but cannot think how.

OP posts:
OldLadyKnowsNothing · 27/10/2012 00:30

Ok, I think we need a little more context? I'm assuming this was part of a conversation, rather than an opening line (and also have a 25yo son).

Wahtawah · 27/10/2012 00:38

It was a status OldLady.

'For all you lads out there.... seems the chat-up line "I'm not going to rape you" works as a line....... who would have thunk it?!

OP posts:
NewNames · 27/10/2012 00:40

I'd just talk to him about it. I want to know more! Please report back OP w

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 27/10/2012 00:58

Ah.

I'm wondering if there's a connection with a TV show. Sorry not to be more specific, but I have a vague recollection of that line being used on some sitcom aimed at the younger generation (also have a 22 yo son who watches a lot of shite, I'm in the same room but not really paying attention, but that line resonates in a very "everyone felt it was cringy and it even caught my attention!" way) so it's possible your ds was being ironic?

Apologies for the stream of consciousness stuff there, but really, I did hear that line used in a US sitcom within the last week, and it was in a cringe-worthy manner.

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 27/10/2012 01:05

Actually, no, I've remembered, it was near the beginning of "Me and Mrs Jones" tonight! At 9.30pm, does that tie in with the Fb status?

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 27/10/2012 01:13

And apologies to US sitcom makers. Blush

lisaro · 27/10/2012 01:24

Never ever apologise to US 'sitcom' makers. They owe so much more than apologies.

BeingBooyhoo · 27/10/2012 01:38

hmm, yes it does seem like he might have being sarcastic (is that the right word?) if he was being serious. show him my response (i'm 26 so similar age to him) and let him know that's the effect he's likely to have on anyone he tries it on.

BeingBooyhoo · 27/10/2012 01:40

Shock Blush

terrible punctuation in my post. sorry.

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 27/10/2012 02:13

Lisaro, you have a point... However, I think I was wrong and should say so.

Alameda · 27/10/2012 13:44

have a 111th trimester* abortion?

*not good at counting, sorry

Anniegetyourgun · 27/10/2012 15:04

It sounds like he's being sarcastic to me. You've got to hope so, at least.

YerMaw1989 · 27/10/2012 19:34

Why are you angry if you don't know the context??

and plus he is an adult at 25 what do you expect to achieve?. x

FastLoris · 29/10/2012 01:13

It's probably marginally better than "I AM going to rape you".

But not by much.
