I actually find mothers referred to as 'mummy' by anyone older than 5 to sound rather infantile. I suppose it depends on what you heard from those around you, when you were growing up, as to what you find acceptable.
I often wondered though why it was called mumsnet and not parents, as I'm sure there are not that many virgin births.
