To us plebs,"mummy" sounds like your child is still 5 years old.

'Mummy' isn't posh, it's nouveau. Or what babies say. FWIW.

This is true.

I actually find mothers referred to as 'mummy' by anyone older than 5 to sound rather infantile. I suppose it depends on what you heard from those around you, when you were growing up, as to what you find acceptable.
I often wondered though why it was called mumsnet and not parents, as I'm sure there are not that many virgin births.

My children call me mother. Anything else is frightfully infra dig.
