absolutely ludicrous to send him to prison, I can't believe, having seen the ridiculously light sentences passed he even got prosecuted for this, if it is as seems on the mail message and no-one actually believed he meant to send it to underage children.

How did he come to have the girl's numbers in his phone?
It's why many people have a work phone and a personal one. He was an idiot, but 18 months? He could have killed both girls as a drunk driver and got less time.

It was an accident, even his family members got it, why the hell did the police waste their time when that was proven? Did they seriously think he was trying to get it on with his own family? Idiots.

It was a mortifying mistake for the poor man, could happen to anyone, ridiculous to proscecute him. I suppose it's easier to target people like that then risk going after real criminals. As for the sentence, people have gotten less for raping kids, burglars, violent assaulters nearly always get less, ffs.

Awful and that poor man will never be allowed to work with kids again either!

Hang on - the article is about how he was freed on appeal, with the sentence being reduced and suspended. Seems like the first decision was a little odd but the appeals system worked how it was supposed to.

And it is right surely that there is some element of punishment - a teacher sent a sexually explicit text to two pupils - if you crashed into someone in your car because it was new and you were still learning how to use it, you would still be charged.

I don't know Doctrine, I was wondering about this...I don't know whether I agree or disagree. Say he had rented a DVD to show his class but when it went on it turned out to be porn. They saw the first five mins (the storyline got straight to the important stuff) then he managed to turn it off. What would have happened then?
I actually think there must be more to it than this though - as someone else said why did he have their numbers, surely this isn't normal in secondary schools? (genuine question)

DCs coach has their personal numbers - I don't see anything odd about that.

Shriek it would depend - if he had rented it from blockbusters and not given it a quick glance, maybe. But your example would be a passive act and one which didn't seem to be directed at an individual (so the whole class seeing something might be less intimidating then a seemingly personal text from a teacher.
