Just feeling really angry at all the murder, assault, rape of females that goes on

I told my husband how horrible it is being part of a gender that is constantly attacked, murdered, etc. He had never thought about it. He doesn´t need to. So we have Tia Sharp, the lady who disappeard in London, an old lady in Scotland murdered by son´s friend, another one murdered in a taxi in Birmingham - this is just over two weeks.

I have one son, pregnant again and just hope its another boy to be honest.

Why is it OK? Apart from raising gentlemen, what the hell can we do? As a gender, we give birth, nurture, raise, care for them, and as a gender we are the ones who suffer at their hands.

its so depressing.

what are the mechanics of evolution? they cannot be expressed in a post, that would take essays, volumes.
you know the butterflys that changes colour from white to black during the induistrail revolution?, if you understand how that happend your half way there.

TheDoctrineOfEnnis · 16/08/2012 23:35

Yes, I do know that. I did it in primary school.

HesterBurnitall · 16/08/2012 23:36

How did it happen, meow? Take us half way.

I thought Himalaya was using evolutionary psychology to interpret these changes rather than evolution. They're not really interchangeable disciplines as far as I know.

TheDoctrineOfEnnis · 16/08/2012 23:37

It was an exceptionally fast evolutionary change, facilitated of course by the fairly short lifespan of butterflies and the degree of natural variance already present in the colouring of said butterflies between black and grey.

chibi · 16/08/2012 23:37

you may be able to explain the impact selective pressures on relative population ratios of dimorphic species, but can you snach the pebble from my hand?????

chibi · 16/08/2012 23:38

this is now featuring inception-style levels of insania

peoplesrepublicofmeow · 16/08/2012 23:38

Constantly repeating that you are talking about evolution, or claiming that himalaya or someone else has expressed what you were trying to say, but then seeming unable to remember what that was next time you post, is not quite cutting it.

point taken LRD, i'm not really in a position with my grammatical skills to cut it, but i'm trying.
when you say you understand evolution, you understand that single cell organismes over millions of year became people right?

but do you understand it to the end where it enlightens your understanding of human behavoir?

LRDtheFeministDragon · 16/08/2012 23:40

meow, yes, groups of organisms adapt to changing conditions.

But this does not prove that, if an individual organism has a certain characteristic, that characteristic must be the product of evolution. It could also be mad-made or acquired (painted nails, for example, or the ability to recite Daffodils from memory). We have not yet established that the violence in human males that's being discussed in this thread is an evolutionary characteristic, and not one that is acquired.

TheDoctrineOfEnnis · 16/08/2012 23:42

I understand the mechanics of evolution as per the butterflies and other examples of evolution of physical characteristics that give an organism a better chance of surviving to reproduce (and rear, where relevant) offspring.

I don't " understand it to the end where it enlightens my understanding of human behaviour. "

LRDtheFeministDragon · 16/08/2012 23:43

'you understand that single cell organismes over millions of year became people right?'

Now, actually, that is an interesting way to put it.

'People' is a loaded term, which 'human' or 'homo sapiens' is not. And I thought we were meant to be excluding morality from this debate - can we use the term 'people' without reference to social or moral constructs? I don't think so.

And I think this is precisely the point. Single-cell organisms evolved, and a result of that evolution was homo sapiens. But does this prove evolution can explain everything that makes people, people? I'm not convinced.

messyisthenewtidy · 16/08/2012 23:44

It was the peppered moth.

peoplesrepublicofmeow · 16/08/2012 23:46

We have not yet established that the violence in human males that's being discussed in this thread is an evolutionary characteristic, and not one that is acquired
evolutionalry pressures are not alone in shaping a person.
"officer, i cant understand why he beat the ole lady up, i allways kicked fuck out of him when he was young and naughty"
violence can , of course come from ones nurture.

peoplesrepublicofmeow · 16/08/2012 23:48

an understanding of evolution, anthropology and phycology ( none of which i have studied) can shed some light on human behavoir

chibi · 16/08/2012 23:49

oh please, don't let your ignorance of these things act as any barrier to your musings

LRDtheFeministDragon · 16/08/2012 23:50

No shit, sherlock.

You do realize we've all been trying to explain this to you for quite some time, that you need to widen your perspective from this rather bizarre understanding of 'evolution' to other things you clearly (as you say) don't know about ... on the one hand, I'm glad you've finally seen the light, but goodness, what took you so long?!

TheDoctrineOfEnnis · 16/08/2012 23:50

Ok, I'm done.

Night all. It's been surreal.

peoplesrepublicofmeow · 16/08/2012 23:51

do you have educational privalige chibi? maybe that counts for more than my male privalige?

LRDtheFeministDragon · 16/08/2012 23:52

Sorry, I am glad you've got there, I'm being uncharitable, but goodness, that was surreal.

chibi · 16/08/2012 23:55

?????????????

LRDtheFeministDragon · 16/08/2012 23:58

I think, chibi, the argument is that if a woman wins an argument through force of logic, or knowing what she's talking about, or any of those underhand methods, she should admit it's only right she accept she did it through unfair privilege over men. After all, how else would she win an argument except by an unfair advantage, when you'd naturally expect men to win?

Confused

Oh, my little brain, how it doth suffer these difficult questions.

chibi · 16/08/2012 23:59

oh dear. anyway, and so to booze bed

messyisthenewtidy · 16/08/2012 23:59

What do you mean you don't have educational privilege meow?! You have the privilege of knowing us Wink Wink Wink

LRDtheFeministDragon · 17/08/2012 00:02

Night chibi.

Grin - true, messy.
