"Proud sponsors of Mums"?

I find the Proctor and Gamble adverts - proud sponsors of mums very patronising.

Is it only mums who use washing up liquid and washing powder?

Do men not ever need to wash their dishes / clothes?

Is it 2012 or 1952 and a woman's place is in the home?

Seems a weird campaign in this day and age.

It is very out of date. Mumsnet campaign anyone?

I always shout and shake my fist when these ads come on. Angry
Very patronising.

My biggest issue with this is WHERE'S MY MONEY?!

notcitrus · 10/08/2012 18:03

Yeah - my main beef with these ads is they don't know what the word 'sponsor' means. I wonder if the ASA would be interested in misleading ads? Though suspect they're giving a couple quid a year to some mother-supporting charity to get round that.

VegansTasteBetter · 10/08/2012 18:10

Sponsor in this case means provide loads of over priced chemicals that you don't need for you to pay for.

UptoapointLordCopper · 10/08/2012 19:43

I've emailed them but they are not interested. I told them that since I buy their things it's me sponsoring them rather than the other way round, and that they are deeply offensive to both men and women for suggesting whatever it is they are suggesting. Bastards. They don't care. "We are big and you are small and there is nothing you can do about it."

TheDoctrineOfEnnis · 10/08/2012 20:43

"Proud sponsors of parents " would have sounded better anyway, it's got a bit of alliteration and the syllables are more balanced.

Still don't remember seeing P&G's name on my sponsor form though.

TellyBug · 10/08/2012 20:45

This really grips my shit. Agree with all of you.

I shall write an angry email tomorrow.

confuddledDOTcom · 10/08/2012 21:26

I did an image search the other day and found "proud sponsor of moms" so I'm assuming this is a global campaign...

"We are big and you are small and there is nothing you can do about it."

You can.

Buy shares (you will need about £50) then attend meetings and vote. Or just vote by post. I don't have P and G but I do have some others, at the moment, on principle I am voting against any male members of the board being reelcected. Once the boards are 50/50 I'll stop, sell the shares and buy some more.
