If the nurse practitioner at my GP surgery can't use the word 'vagina'?

I've just been to check up on a few things, i'm 45, having more hot flushes than ever before, getting spots etc and after a bout of thrush, was putting 2 & 2 together...

she handed me a swab and said you can do that yourself, it goes quite far in there

i said 'oh right into my vagina then' and she flushed and nodded 'yes, that's it'

this was in a consulting room, with a solid door and no adjoining rooms, wtf is a nurse doing there who can't use the word vagina Sad

anyway, glad to get that off my chest

I don't know. As a student midwife I clearly love vaginas and have no problem with the correct terminology Grin But I can't imagine saying to a woman, "Is it OK if I examine your vagina now?" Confused Although I can't imagine muttering about "er, down there" either. I suppose it all depends on the exact context and wording.

but as a midwife if you were asking someone to take a swab of their vagina that is surely what you would ask them to do rather than ummm and ahh about it.

I went for fertility tests last year, and it seemed that all of the nurses and healthcare assistants used euphemisms. I found it deeply, deeply irritating.

I had a GP once who referred to my vagina as my "downstairs"
I actually thought he was asking whereabouts in the house I was when my minge was itchy.
