A manifesto for change - what would you do?

So Cameron has had a change of heart and starts listening rather than relying on the Big Society.

What would you want him to do which would go against the patriarchy? What changes do you think need to be made?

For me - ensuring part time work is as valued as full time career wise and working on ways to encourage men to work around their family without fear of harming their career.

Challenging the media in how they view women and portray them.

Educating teenagers on their rights to a life free of DV - ensuring they know that is not normal.

if perterinty and maternity leave were replaced with perental leave.
this would have two affects , firstly, the leaved could be planed around how strong the mum feels and how much help she needs so both perents having leave at teh same time, then the farther go's back to work, when the mum go's back the father takes whats left of his time so the baby is a little older before daycare kicks in.
secondly, if perents have equal amounts of leave for childbirth employers will stop veiwing 20something women as a bad risk, everyone will be! and the workplace will just have to adapt, just like it had to when children were stopped from going down the mines, they manage in the end.

actually enimead, your question suggest that erosion of the patriachy will be enough? your not for the total dismantleing of patriachy and replacing it with something else?

Based on the patriarchy thread - what could the Government do to change societies attitudes towards people who want to be free to make their own choice instead of having expectations thrust upon them?

Can Government be the change? If Cameron were to listen, what policy decisions could he make that would have a positive impact on society and women's place in it?

More childcare?

A recognition in the tax system of the value of SAHM?

Rewarding companies that have family friendly policies and encourage men to get involved in childcare responsibilities rather than assuming it will be the mum?

Ensuring DV is taken extremely seriously as a crime and ensuring people know it is?

Ensuring sexist behaviour is not tolerated in schools (or the House of Commons for that matter)

Working with the media to ensure recognition is given to those women who are not just valued for their looks.

Working with the media on their attitudes towards women in general.
