cunt and twat

what do you feel about them as swear words?

I used to hate them, because they are considered the strongest insult i.e. being female genetalia is the worst thing you could be

whilst being a dick or a knob, is much milder, suggesting male genetalia is much 'nicer'

but, cunt and twat are used ALOT on MN. And it feels OK.
Have the words been reclaimed?

I don't like the c word, it has nasty connotations to me. Twat is ok, I think it's all about personal preference.

EclecticShock · 30/05/2012 20:23

Maybe it's about how the word sounds?

MiniTheMinx · 30/05/2012 20:53

The C word (no I won't even type it) is a hard guttural sounding word, maybe that is why it sounds worse that twat.

FeministPixie · 01/06/2012 22:59

I have taken to saying "i'd call you a cunt but you don't have the warmth or depth"

Nicholas, I think it will be the Latin because jokes about the Latin word exist in English-made books so much (and before the Vikings IIRC).

I like 'cunt' because it is a good strong word with a nice, non-medical sound (vulva and vagina sound very 'medical' to me .. nothing wrong with that but it is good to have words that are not medical terms). And a 'queynte' (=cunt) used to mean a pretty, nice, 'quaint' thing, which I think is really cute.

Twat doesn't bother me as a term but I don't have strong feelings about it either.

NicholasTeakozy · 02/06/2012 10:44

Thanks LRD, I don't think I'll be able to look at 'quaint' in quite the same way again. :o I agree it's a strong word. It's an ugly word for a beautiful part of the body. In my opinion anyway. Hope that makes sense. Confused

bitch, slut, slapper and whore are (in my view) almost as offensive as cunt. Twat is certainly offensive for many, but as was evident, from that radio studio sitution with David Cameron, for some it is clearly of similar level as knobhead, prick, or twit.

I heard a piece on *>> R4 Front Row

The way I see it cunt is a complete sentence, as with life knob or dick isn't always enough, it needs something to accompany it Wink
