Apparently a page from a magazine about One Direction, the boyband.

Not sure whether to be Angry or Sad.

It's a US magazine, 'One Direction and Friends', due to hit newstands on Tuesday.

solidgoldbrass · 20/05/2012 22:37

That is spectactularly nasty, but so childishly so that I wonder if it was actually written by a teenager.

LaurieFairyCake · 20/05/2012 22:44

Yes, it's horrible.

I'm not bothered about age gaps once people have reached adulthood but I don't think 17 is adulthood.

So that leaves me with the uncomfortable feeling that someone is just dating someone because they are famous - and when that person is a child I find it exploitative.

So while the article is ghastly I don't really care about CF.

Bue · 21/05/2012 12:40

I don't know... sure a few of the comments are awful, but a relationship between a 32 year old and a 17 year old is really not OK, no matter which person is older. I think she brought this on herself.

EduStudent · 21/05/2012 13:29

I agree that the age gap is uncomfortable.

However, that absolutely does not justify this kind of vitriol, particularly in a magazine for children. They are separate issues.

lilbreeze · 22/05/2012 14:45

Horrible 'article'. I don't agree with the age gap either (no one in their 30s should be dating a 17-year-old regardless of gender) but it doesn't excuse this.

teaaddict2012 · 23/05/2012 10:52

I think the inappropriate relationship and the abuse on the page are 2 separate issues.

maybe the mag could have used that issue as a platform to talk about inappropriate and predatory relationships and that its unacceptable from both genders, you know actually educating children.

rather than that.

devilinside · 23/05/2012 11:16

erm, this isn't about the age-gap. It's about a magazine using vile language to put down a woman. A magazine that your daughters could see.

How anyone can think that is acceptable is beyond me

KRITIQ · 23/05/2012 13:13

Agree with teaaddict and all those who spotted that the purpose of the piece is to degrade and demean a specific woman, encourage others to join in and validate the idea that this is an acceptable, nay desirable thing to do.

With the old double standard, I doubt there would even be raised eyebrows about a 17 year old female musician having a 32 year old male boyfriend.

I think the age gap here is just being used as an "excuse" for slating a specific woman.

teaaddict2012 · 23/05/2012 16:11

it should be Kritiq, its still wrong .

MyelinSheath · 23/05/2012 17:58

What a horrible page. I really hope this is a fake.

HeartsLovesTheDiamondJubilee · 23/05/2012 18:02

Makes me feel sick.

kirigamirose · 23/08/2012 12:14

disgusting

CaptainHetty · 23/08/2012 12:22

That's vile.

Mumfortoddler · 24/08/2012 21:27

Jeepers, she's a year older than me- hardly a 'grandma' having to cover her 'gray' hairs. What a shallow and rubbish article. There is so much tripe we feed our teenagers in their teen mags this is nothing. We were all reading More! at age 11 learning how to do position of the week. Now that is wrong.
