i dont know how she could stay with him. even if he hadn't raped anyone, look at what he says about getting any girl he wants!! why would you want to be with someone like that? he makes me sick.

Empusa · 28/04/2012 14:58

I can only hope that they will be the minority and that the majority will protest against it. :(

FrothyDragon · 28/04/2012 15:21

The rape, I believe, was last year, rosy.

What's even more shocking to me is that one of the men involved in the Justice For Ched campaign (responsible for the FB link) is one of the young men involved in filming the rape. I believe the campaign was formed by himself and Evans' sister, but may be wrong. Of COURSE she's going to protest his innocence.

This is so disheartening. How can people stand by and let a rape victim be treated so appallingly. Oh wait. We're in "Great" Britain. :(

grimbletart · 28/04/2012 15:25

Yes rosy71 - I was shocked if this indeed true. Where the hell is her self-respect? Even if there had been an enormous miscarriage of justice (which I don't believe) and it wasn't rape he still s*agged another woman.

Also, all those writing reports and tweeting in his favour seem to have had a total irony bypass by name-calling the victim. Surely if ever there was a definition of slag, slut etc. it is those footballers, like him, who think it is perfectly OK to have sex with any woman within spitting distance. Someone should explain to these types of men that even if a woman "throws" herself at you, you don't have to catch her. Let them into a secret - sex is not compulsory even if you possess a penis.

Nyac · 28/04/2012 15:33

That Facebook page is utterly disgusting.

Hassled · 28/04/2012 15:35

I can't think of anything constructive to say - but couldn't not register my shared disgust. They should stop the game.

It's not just the complete dismissal of the validity of a trial and the verdict that gets me - it's that the fans feel their star footballers are so far above the law and/or are so deified that the only possible scenario is that the woman is a "slag". They're on a different planet - it's beyond my comprehension.

IAmBooyhoo · 28/04/2012 15:36

the two men booked a room specifically for bringing a girl back to. one found a completely intoxicated, unable to walk without stumbling girl on a street corner, texted his mate saying he'd found a girl for their use (as if texting to say he's managed to find some drugs or something) and his mate joined them and they both raped her. all the while their friend's filmed it from outside the window. if i was that girlfriend i would want nothing to do with anyone who even hinted at supporting his actions. i just dont understand how she can accept and support him after that. he is a vile human being. his brother and friends are vile, his supporters are vile, the people who have attacked the real victim are vile. i would want to be as far away from all of that as was possible. i just dont understand her.

MizK · 28/04/2012 15:38

I too feel slightly ill reading that article.
Football matches seem to bring out the absolute worst in men. seriously, the racism, sexism and homophobia that is encouraged is absolutely shocking. If this applause goes ahead then it is another indication, to me, that it has become an absolute rotten cesspit. My DP is a football fan and some of his stories about Page 3 girls being wheeled out to entertain drunken fans, some of the WAGs being heckled and jeered at as they pass, strippers on coaches full of fans - it really makes me despair, especially as the mother of a football obsessed 9 year old who always wants to go to games.
All we can do is to keep strong as women against these morons, and educate our children so that they don't see this sort of behaviour - ie treating a disgusting rapist as some sort of folk hero - as normal. I don't know if even protesting against this is helpful - I think that these idiots want publicity for their twisted 'cause'.
All I can think of is the devastating effect this must be having on Evans victim. And on anybody who is currently trying to pursue convictions against similar men - I bet that the reporting of rapes is going to go down after all this.

Jux · 28/04/2012 15:43

Why the hell is this being televised then? That's a disgrace too.

The team should be punished and have to play at half strength or whoever it is they're playing just given the match.

You need something really strong to show all these bloody yobs that what they're doing is not acceptable.

Perhaps when the clapping starts the entire team could be sent off.

IAmBooyhoo · 28/04/2012 15:46

jux i dont think its the team that is holding/organising the silence/clapping/whatever. it's the fans.

but i agree, the team shoudl walk off in disgust if it does happen.

Get0rfMoiLand · 28/04/2012 15:46

What a bunch of absolute cunts. Bloody hell.

This is revolting. That poor woman must be feeling distraught.

Empusa · 28/04/2012 15:47

"but i agree, the team shoudl walk off in disgust if it does happen."

Agreed.

mamalovesmojitos · 28/04/2012 15:47

God that is sickening and I understand why it would make you cry op. Sick, pathetic, brainless people. that poor girl Sad

FrothyDragon · 28/04/2012 15:54

Jux, it's Evans' sister and close friends who seem to be organising the clapping. :(

Lottapianos · 28/04/2012 16:04

I'm absolutely sickened too. And people still scoff at the suggestion that we live in a rape culture???? How on earth can his girlfriend be sticking by him? As someone else said, even if she doesn't believe it was rape, he still shagged another woman. I guess it just shows how normal this is for some people, and how natural it is to disbelieve a woman who alleges rape, even if her allegations are found to be true by a court of law. Heartbroken for his poor victim Sad

whitewhitewine · 28/04/2012 16:21

Bloody vile. It is just so shit isn't it. That poor, poor girl hasn't only be raped but now has to see people applauding her attacker.

Is 5 years and a little hero worship the going rate for raping a vunerable young woman now? Angry

whitewhitewine · 28/04/2012 16:30

Please ignore spelling mistakes, getting used to posting on my phone!

SaraBellumHertz · 28/04/2012 16:39

It's just so depressingly vile isn't it?

IAmBooyhoo · 28/04/2012 16:45

i can only imagine what fans' reactions would be if it had been two women that had done this to a man. but tbh there is no equivalent in female terms where there is such a massive crowd gathered together in one place to support any female teams, nor the associated degradation of men. it just doesn't happen in reverse.

Sunnywithachanceofshowers · 28/04/2012 16:53

Reason umpty million why I'm a feminist. Kicking racism out of football is great, if only they'd kick out misogyny too...

puds11 · 28/04/2012 16:55

They are fools, all of them. Try supporting a rapist when someone you know has been raped!
Vile people

Memoo · 28/04/2012 17:25

I got a reply from Angela Smith MP.

She said she tweeted her disgust about this last night only to received verbal abuse from a Sheffield fan.

OP posts:
IAmBooyhoo · 28/04/2012 17:31

presumably that was one of the fans who will be taking part or at least supporting the clapping/silence.

i just dont get how people aren't disgusted at him. one day rapists will be viewed the same way as paedohiles and people will be too ashamed to publicy defend or support them. one day. it can't come soon enough though. for the time being it appears that women are just here for sex and it how dare they complain when men take it.

cocolepew · 28/04/2012 17:32

Dh has just read it over my shoulder, he said "fucking twats what are they thinking". I don't think they know how to think.

IAmBooyhoo · 28/04/2012 17:32

sorry i'll reword that. it appears that women are just here for men to have sex
