looking for some inspiration for new reads

I like Nell Dunn...I don't know if she's classified as a Feminist writer but she probably is....Up the Junction, Poor Cow, My White Shoes, Steaming (a play). She just writes such vivid characters and her desciptions of London in the 60s are to die for.

I love the way she litters her prose with advertising and jingles as well as popular songs from the period she wrote Up the Junction in...it really puts you right there.

To these I'd add Doris Lessing and if you like sci-fi Octavia E. Butler. Also, I read a great book by Jill Dawson recently - 'Watch Me Disappear', must read some more of hers. I reviewed it here btw; bit.ly/s2xmER, (I don't get paid for the link).

Definitely Ursula le Guin, and agree with lots listed above.

I'd also add Jill Tweedie's 'Letters from a fainthearted feminist' - still funny and relevant.
